Ovni Yello paint fade

Has anybody had any problems with paint fade or sun bleaching of their paint?

The car I'm about to buy is in the lovely Ovni Yellow, but when sat on the dealers forecourt it looked like it had been suffering from sun bleaching on two of the panels. The front and rear passenger side wings were both very light with white speckles, very odd.

The dealer is having all affected areas completely re-sprayed, but I was wondering if this is a problem that is likely to come back, or a known issue?

Any advice would be appreciated :)

The same happened to mine and it was resprayed in the "affected" areas. The problem is you can see (well I can, most people can't) the areas that haven't been done. Its very hard to match the yellow and unless they do the whole car I think you'll notice it in the future.

Agreed. Ovni looks great when it's clean and perfect but it's a PITA to keep it that way. In the summer its covered in fly splats and in the winter its covered in mud/salt/fly splats - and if its a diesel, soot all year round :D

Cheers for the heads up. My car's usually get cleaned on a worryingly regular basis, so hopefully it will look OK most of the time and superb the rest :D

Might have to save some money each month to go towards an annual blow-over?

Getting it 'detailed' will probably work out better. Some of the results i've seen on this forum have been stunning.
Have a search but Iain @ FinerDetails seems to have a good reputation (i haven't used him, but several on here have.) but there are others.

'Detailing' is an advanced car clean, using clay bars and paint treatments. I do this myself every now and again, much to the amusement of my neighbours when I'm still there hours later....

Yeah, i saw an example of a 'pink' car that had previously been red and by the time it had been fully detailed it was probably better than it was when it came out of the showroom.

That's why I enjoy doing it every now and again. I don't have the patience to do it all the time, but a few times a year it's nice to do and then stand back, grin, and think 'I did that' :)

Help required - Ovni fade

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem on a 52 plate LC.
The car has the usual paint chips etc on the front end which I intended to get touched in.

After a good clean & polish this weekend I noticed the paint has faded generally over the whole car except for the plastics, which are still nice & bright. On closer inspection the door shuts are equally bright so I guess its the exposed body thats faded. Now I've noticed it its really bugging me so I need to get it sorted :(

Having read the other posts it seems that I need to get the car detailed. Anybody know anyone up to the job in the Portsmouth area? Any idea what I should be paying for it too??

Cheers all.

Mike.

Mike, sorry to hear you're having the same problem :(

I'm hoping that the dealer I bought it from (Inchape Renault in Southampton) will do something about it, as they obviously didn't do much when I bought it. They said they would send it away to be sprayed so it's even, but one of the sales guys let it slip that they just sent it to be 'mopped', which I'm not happy about.

Anyway, I'm still waiting for a resolution to this as the sales manager is apparently away on holiday until this week and he is the only one that could authorise this sort of work.

Will keep you posted how I get on, but if you manage to find somewhere to detail your car, will you let me know the details please? I'm not far from you, at the proper end of the M27 ;) So if you find somewhere decent I might give them a call :)

I have the same problem but on a Leon TDI SE!
The ovny yellow has faded but you can't really tell unless you look at it from a certain angle! Hopefully mine was done before i bought it!
Time will tell i suppose!

My girlfriends yellow Ka Millenium edition has bloomed badly since shes had it is in need of a real bad T-Cut. Its a shame cos its a wonder colour when its not bloomed.

I remember my dad t-cutting his red BMW 528i (last of the shark noses) every 6mths or so cos it had started to bloom.

One of the reasons why i'll not buy a red or yellow car.

Sorry to hear your having problems; a decent t-cut or taking it to have it done professionally should bring the colour back nicely :)

G3 compound polish a new machine polisher and the stick on pads will cost less than a couple of proffesional polishes, just keep the polisher moving and do small areas at a time or it can burn the paint.

Aren't Ovni cars lacquered now? My Flash Red Leon and Ibiza have both been finished with clear coat to prevent fading and I assumed all SEATs were treated the same way.

If they are, then surely polishing won't help until the lacquer has been removed. Or am I missing the point here?

If they are not, does anyone know whether the new Crono Yellow cars are lacquered?

That's a good point, because I think that my car does have a layer of laquer on it!
Hmm... don't know what to do now!
It's not such a big problem at the moment because it's winter and the car get's dirty easy but I will have to find a solution ibe the time summer get's here.
