Hi guys, following on my previous post p00af-turbo actuator stuck on my 2.0tdi i did a few tests with my actuator. Pulling down the actuator it moves but does not spring it self up on its own? Is this normal? I tried to put suction with my mouth onto the vac pipe to turbo and held it and it did not lose the vacuum. Do not know if this is a good enough test. Does this seem like the veins or actuator itself?

It's best to use a vac pump to properly test the diaphragm, that way you can test a set amount of vacuum and watch a vacuum gauge for any movement. One like this

If you're happy to trust the method you have used then it's more likely the turbo veins are stuck than the actuator.

Hi thanks for reply, i will order this. Can the actuator itself being fault bring the actuator to get stuck and not spring itself back up when i pushed with my hand down? also how would i know how much vacuum i should test upto? is it just me needing to see if it holds that set amount of vacuum and then release and see if it moves back up ok?

Usually it's the turbo veins that cause the actuator to stick, but there's always a chance it could be buggered inside.

There is a set amount of vacuum that is used when you configure the actuator in VCDS, I used that to test. My diaphragm was bust, it immediately started letting air past and failed the test.
According to the setup guide it's 0.65 bar partial vacuum.

Buggered inside the turbo or inside the actuator? Thanks alot for the replies haven't had much help other than you. Would it also be a good idea to remove the cir clip and actuator to see how the veins lever moves? Should it just move up and down? Yep I will try the vac pump as I have no access to vcds. Was just confused how it held when doing it with my mouth but makes sense as it probably wasn't powerful enough. I did try mr muscle after 4th attempt the actuator moved alot better and springed up when pulling down but went back to normal after a drive.

Buggered inside the actuator, but it's much more likely the turbo veins are stuck than the actuator moving parts have seized.
Have you got a PD or the later CR engine? I've not heard of people doing the Mr Muscle trick on the later model engines.

Not sure if it's ok to pop the circlip from the actuator, not sure if it will interfere with it's setup.

CR engine i have, yeah I didn't hear many people either but read along hot side is perfect to do it in. So thats what I did, did seem to free up as I moved the actuator every 10mins for 2 mins each time then soon as I started it and turnt it off it was stuck again
