Posting this on behalf of a mate who has a PD130 Polo Mk4 GT ( ibiza chassis) iv had a look at the car and had it over the pit at my farm having a look.
Basically, when the car comes on boost theres a high pitched noise. Definately isnt a boost leak, all pipes checked and 1 was loose but not making a noise (at EGR)
When he lets his foot off when acceleratin it stops, and starts again when turbo spools up. It does seem to stop higher up the rev range though. Car also cuts out at higher speeds, sticky vanes presumably. Car still pulls well though and not overly smoky.
Heres a video from below the car today, hope it works

yes can definately hear that sort of whine come in at a certain point... hmm strange one, as when not under the load and revving the turbo isnt actually working, im presuming it does the same noise under load? When over the pit did you pinpoint the noise as coming from the turbo housing?

Like you say the cutting out at higher speeds is usually overboost due to sticky vanes, drop the turbo off and clean it up then see how the noise goes i would. Im not 100% sure its the turbo making it, it almost sounds a bit electrical.... hmm

Exact same happens under load. If i took the revs up gradually it didnt happen until 3k. If I just decked it then started at about 1400rpm. Same happens under load, usually starting at the 1400rpm.
The turbo does create some boost, obviously not as much as when its on the road and under load.
The noise was pinpointed to the turbo, I did think of aux belt pulleys an alternator. Dont know what noise an exhaust gas leak from the turbo would make or a pin hole leak in that area from the manifold etc?
In the next month or so he is planning taking the turbo off to clean it out

This is my car fokes its been running alright but as u can imagine its an embaresment when its starts to whine, over on the polo forum sumone sugested the turbo gasket?? Considering going for stage 2 now if my turbo is knackered.
Some thoughts of my own are the air manifold has came loose? The fuel pump mabe since its only when my foots down it makes the noise? Or a large leak from the exhaust or boost pipes but had a look cant seem to see anything obvious. She has started smoking a bit aswell at full throttle wud say its a light grey colour .

I have the same problem with my FR (PD150), last year it decided to blow its standard turbo after the remap. It now has a Hybrid. About a month ago i went on holiday and all was fine when i came back my turbo made this high pitch ringing sound, seems really sluggish and the boost doesnt really kick in till 3000rpm! Ive also recently had the EGR valve pipe replaces as mine split so im wondering if a similar problem has come up and it worth blanking the valve off totally.

check your EGR where it goes onto the turbo this was loose on mine and every time i came onto boost it was a high pitched noise for around 1 / 2 seconds then would go then repeat and do the same process for every gear

Mine is a constant ringing, I noticed today sat on the motorway at 60 I had my foot just touching the accelerator to keep my speed and there was a faint ringing sound from my turbo as it spooled, this was constant until I either lightly accelerated or I slowed down. same happens at 80.

Sounds similar to mine although in mine if you go through the entire rev range foot down the sound does faintly dissapear half way through and it sounds normal. I will have a look at the pipe from the egr when i get a chance.
