I've got an issue with my diesel FR - under hard acceleration it judders. This normally happens between 2500 and 3000 rpm and it is more apparent from 3rd gear upwards. Once I get over 3000rpm the juddering disappears and the car accelerates normally.

I've got the modified EGR gasket fitted but this hasn't made much difference. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing it?

Cheers for your help as always.

Andy

I have already scanned it and there are no error codes - sorry forgot to put that in my original post.

Your description in that thread is exactly how it feels:

"I bet it feels like the whole car shakes like its struggling almost stalling in a way, there are no mechanical sounds but just a general shudder, then the revs pick up and you pull away fine? I get this sometimes, I know its because im in too high a gear, like I've caught the car out and its putting in too much fuel into the mix. As to how to fix this or whether its a problem that's going to get worse over time a result I don't know so sorry not really much help "

I have just had the DMF replaced though so don't think it could be that failing again and I don't think I'm in too higher gear as it is only happening between 2500 and 3000 rpm and only under hard acceleration.

After my drive home from work I have a few more details. The juddering starts around 2500 rpm but get progressively worse as the rpms increase. I got up to around 3500 in 5th before the juddering was too bad to keep going so I changed up to 6th.

It's almost like the engine isn't getting enough fuel to cope with the acceleration. I have limited knowledge but from reading on here I think it might be either the EGR valve ceasing up or possibly the fuel pump or filter.

Can anyone suggest anything else?

If anyone is around Stockley Park in Uxbridge I'd be happy to take them for a drive if it would help identify the issue.

The gasket stopped my low down judder, mapping stopped my high up judder

is your car mapped?

I've had a bluefin for a while but took it off when I started having this issue. The issue is still there without the bluefin but it isn't as bad.

something to do with boost limits i think i remember Kilner telling me

OEM maps have been known to do it aswell

Thanks for your help AndrewJB, I just can't understand why my car has suddenly started doing this.

So who did you get to map it out? Does it have to be a custom map or does anyone do a generic map to get rid of it?

Think shark is said to get rid of it but I know there are others maybe p-torque, suggest you get it scanned by vcds first, egr problems will show up on a scan

I have scanned it with a fault code reader but there were no codes. Would VCDS show any extra codes that the code reader wouldn't pick up?

I'm in Berkshire so quite a way from Shark or P-torque. Although there is a Shark mobile dealer near me. Might give them a shout.

JBS released an update that solved it on their map.

Then i got sharked anyway

Sounds like injector starting to go down had a golf in at work doing exact same thing other week had a new egr and dpf in month prior. Turned out to be 2 injectors starting to break down. Take it to a Vw specialist and try will data log the flow rate of each injector and it will flag up! Unfortunately not going to be a cheap fix. I'd call seat and see if there's any outstanding recalls on it first! Could save you a hell of a lot!!

I had the injectors replaced in July last year as part of the recall and I've only done around 8000 miles since so if it is the injectors hopefully they'll be some form of good will gesture as it is unacceptable in my opinion for them to only last 8 months and 8000 miles.

I'm already pretty cheesed off at being told it was the DMF, spending the best part of £1000 only to still have the issue. I'm going back to the garage tonight so hopefully we'll know more by tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help guys.

A happy end to this saga - turns out the fuel filter was blocked and needed to be changed. Hey presto, new filter and the car is like new again! Despite my car being serviced at the same garage for 3 years the filter had never been changed.

Happy it has been sorted with no further expense.

Thanks again for everyones help and advice.

good news on the fix, it's one to remember.

Get your car serviced some place else. They're obviously just changing oil and nothing else (half a job)

if you do take it there again put marks on your oil and fuel filters so you know they have been replaced. Some places just take the piss.
