Permanent & Ignition Live

Before the search police come crashing down on me I have spent the last hour searching this forum and online...

I have fitted a new dash cam (Thinkview F770 2 Channel for those that care!).

All the wires are run through the car and are currently at the rear of the fuse box.

There are 3 cables:

Black (Ground)

Yellow (Battery)

Red (Ignition)

Ground is simple enough. What I would like to know is where I can tap in the Battery, which requires a permanent live, and the ignition which needs to spring to life when the key is turned to position 1.

Both cables are already fused.

There is no fuse diagram on the cover, and the manual lists them by number but I cant see any bloody numbers on the fuse box!

Does anyone know where I can splice these cables in without causing havok please?

I'll look tomorrow to where I got the switched live for my towbar electrics from. I had the same problem - no wiring diagrams. I just used the multimeter and tested wires till I found a suitable one.

I've just plugged my dashcam into the cigarette lighter - it's switched anyway.

Ignition just use the 12v socket, this is switched. Just grab a multi meter and prob the fuses till you find what you want.

To the OP, what year of Ibiza do you have?

I'm not Search Police Inspector Flatfoot, but have you tried searching on this forum as I'm sure this has been discussed before, maybe check over on the uk-polos.net and briskoda.net forums as I have definitely seen this discussed recently on the latest Polo/Ibiza/Fabia - just make sure that you don't take any Polo 6R or 6C fusebox layouts as being exactly the same as your Ibiza. I have a fuse box layout for a 2009 Ibiza that I think I compiled using on line info. Most people buy a couple of these "piggy back" fuse things that turn a single fuse slot into a dual fuse slot and so fuse these wire directly at their sources - which is the safest way of going things.

Edit:- try to remember to place your next new thread in the main area for this version of Ibiza, this FAQs is just for that - ie answers to FAQs - placing new threads there will give them better exposure and so quicker/more answers.(SPI Flatfoot's mate)

Thanks guys!

My car is a 2016 (66 Reg).

I need the perm live as it records even when the car is parked :)

The wires already have in-line fuses on them :)

I would have used a multi-meter but mine has given up on me lol I thought this kind of information would be readily available on the net - and the descriptions of some of the fuses in the manual are crazy lol

Well I thought that the fuse explanation for the late 2009 Ibiza that I look after is not good, the fuse explanation for my wife's August 2015 are totally useless, best comment being "ask your dealer" ! Unless the later Ibiza is the same as the Polo, which I doubt, but the latest Polo has its main fuse box fitted upside down, maybe just for another laugh.

Edit:- I think that the later Polo, in the SEL guise, has about 34 unlisted fuses, which is not very useful, I keep meaning to visit the supplying dealer to get the answer to my questions, I have printed out a table of known and not known fuse functions and mean to pester that dealer's workshop, as suggested by VW in the owner's handbook.

Another edit:- nothing but nothing beats having fuses located at the fuse box, ie at the distribution bus bars!
