Pre delivery inspection

Hello fellow members

I would like to know what is an acceptable mileage to see on the clock when collecting the new car from the dealers.

I have ordered the Cupra 280 and have visions of everyone in the garage taking her for a spin, not warming her up properly and flooring her to the redline.

Am I just being paranoid? Maybe I am, but interested to know what you guys have seen when collecting. Of course there is nothing stoping the garage from disconnecting the speedo.

I would appreciate your comments!

Rayman.

I will never forget going to Honda when the ep3 type r came out to buy one. A mechanic stopped me after the test drive and asked was I buying one as they hadn't had the chance to get a good spin in one. Put me off. Never had any issues since.

Mine had 7 kms when I collected it (actually I had it delivered at home, which is about 3 kms away from the dealer)

Things may have changed since I was in the trade but more than one manufacturer I knew of had a one time delete of the mileage post pdi allowing the customer to pick up a zero mileage car

I seen my new FR sitting in the dealer compound today so will be interesting to see when I lift it. Don't think the FR is as appealing as a cupra though lol

iirc it is or was VW,
Definately Fiat and Alfa and I'm fairly certain Jaguar . I seem to remember it had to be under a certain mileage ie 30 miles or it would not reset. To deter dealers driving cars between dealers and zeroing the trip

thanks for all the replies!

I searched the web for pdi and resetting the clock and wish I hadn't.

Seems like the purchaser could easily be the 8th person to sit in behind the wheel and have no idea how many miles the car has already done.

I guess, all I can ask is that they warm her up before anything and that I stop the paranoia!:D

My car had 1300 miles on the clock when i bought it after being an ex demo.
Are you saying that mileage may/could have been tampered with as there is no pdi in my book..

Hi Steveb

I am saying that from googling it seems that garages can and do reset the mileage if pdi or moving the car puts on too much, within limits.

I'm not saying anything about your car however.

Have a look on google yourself.

I called into the dealer today and my FR is arriving tomorrow or Wednesday. He said it doesn't take long to pdi so I wouldn't worry about it to much.

I've stopped.

That's great news on your car! How long was the wait from order day?

I ordered it on the 29th dec and it was delayed a week leaving spain then it needs to come to N Ireland which you would think is about oz. It's meant to be on the boat tonight.

Did you get your new motor jonny_w yet?

Finally got it on last Friday. Loving it and even though it's a 150bhp derv I'm loving it more than my civic type r that I had. Glad I ordered the tech pack as would be dull without it.

Nice one, interesting that you prefer it to the Type R. What colour and spec did you go for?

Don't get me wrong the civic was a good car but if you didn't hammer it, it was quite boring and inside was nothing to write home about.

I went for a white 5 door 2.0tdi 150bhp with the tech pack and upgraded 18's. I am really surprised by it. Lovely car.
