I recently bought my cupra i took it to a mates garage as i had wripped the splitter off as i pulled onto the ramp the loads of steam started coming from under the bonet turned car off and idntified that it had what appeared to have over heated. Got it home and noticed that the rad fans wern't turning on. So instantly thought it was temp switch on rad. went and bought on and fitted it got the car up to temp and sure enough stem started coming from the expansio tank again. Any way identified the metal expansion tank had actually split so went and got it welded back up. Been fine ever since however now when the car gets up to temperature and i park up turn car off i can come back to the car 2 3 and some times 4 hours later and the rad fans are stil on !? is this normal ? tried starting car earlier and battery was flat i am going to presume this is because the rad fans have been on for ages and drained the battery ? In need of help

there is a main control unit for the fan assembly (to control the ac and coolant fans individually) it sounds like this needs replacing to me, however was the new temp switch you fitted new or second hand?

has the car still got two cooling fans? If the ac has been removed then one should never be on, so check which one is on all the time I will look at the diagrams for your car and see which is the coolant and ac fans.

How the hell would you crack the alloy header tank, i doubt over heating would crack that before it burst a hose.

Id say it was one of the wires on the fan switch as if you've whacked the radiator its probably popped off as it wasnt on there that well. As you know i know pretty much everything about this car
