For the last few nights (much to both ours and our neighbours delight) our Mk2 2001 1.8T Alhambra s alarm has gone off in the early hours. Its on our driveway and nobodies trying to break in or fiddle with it im sure of that. When it goes off ive jumped up and quickly opened the car via the fob and then re locked it only for it to go off again 5-10 mins later. Ended up leaving the blinkin thing the with tailgate slightly ajar to stop it locking itself. Anyone else had any problems along these lines? All replies appreciated.

Alhambra Alarm

Hi There
I have had an identical problem with my 2001 1.8 20VT in the last week and this week - there does not seem to be a pattern to the fault.
I was obviously hoping to find an answer on the forum before I had to take it to a main dealer.
The only help I can give, is that there is no need to leave the car in an unlocked state.
I lock the car normally (the driver's door red light begins to flash - showing that the alarm is armed) then I re-press the fob close button until the red light stops flashing. The car remains locked but I presume that the alarm is turned off as the alarm does not initiate spuriously again.
I'll let you know if I find out any more info.
Regards,
BigAll

If you "arm the alarm" with the sonics off then this could tell you what's causing the fault if it doesn't false alarm after doing this then it could be a faulty sensor or just have a spider in there sounds daft i know but i've had it before.
to turn the sensors off...press remote to arm (1 flash) then press again within 2 seconds(2flashes)

hope this helps

Random Alarm.

Hi Lambchop
Thanks for the reply.
I think I may have already accidently done what you advised by randomly fiddling with the zapper.
The alarm does not spuriously go off any more.
Are the sonics, the sensors you mention, and where are they, so I can hoover out the spiders ?

Bigall.

the sensors are located at the top of both "B" posts (above the seat belt) and you could try to blow them out or pull the panel off(only do this if your confident enough to put them back OK)

because there is such a big space in there they do gey the odd web or two in..

Random Alarm.

Hi Lambchop
I finally got round to investigating the sensors.
I found that the pillar lining holding the plastic grill had become slightly detached.
Without disturbing anything (including spiders) I merely replaced the lining and since then I have had no spurious alarms. I wondered whether the gap had allowed external influences outside the car to initiate the alarm spuriously.
Only time will tell. I don't fancy removing the lining as it was when I found it, to see if the fault happens again !!
Once again many thanks for your very useful information.
Bigall.

oh wow, you guys just helped me out no end, i recently got a 1998 alhambra 2.0 petrol and the alarm was going off randomly all the time but mostly late at night, i just went out and tried what you suggested about pressing the fob twice to disable the alarm and hey presto its off, now gives me breathing space to look into the sensors and stuff without worrying that i have to permanantley leave my car unlocked, thanks guys
