I get a very slight rattle when starting from cold on my 1.8t cupra, I've read about vvt rattle and cam chain tensioner rattle but tbh I think it could be hydraulic lifters judging by this noise. However the thing I'm more concerned about is when the car is warm and at idle, if you tap the throttle very lightly but quickly I get a much more audiable rattle from the engine, a very brief but very metallic noise.
Is this anything to do with cam canon tesnioner or vvt?
Although I looked for more information on the vvt issue I couldn't really make out if it was detremental to the engine or not?
For what it's worth it is an AUQ engine and has only 93k and has been serviced at seat all it's life.

Now include a video (remove the w from the beginning and end of the link)- the noise can be heard when the tittle is first pressed, it's almost like slack is being taken up in something, but it is only when the throttle peddle is depressed very quickly/suddenly

Hi mate, obviously it's hard to tell from a video....... but it sounds (and looks) like an engine mount(s) which is either broken or very worn, causing the engine to move on the mountings when you rev it. That is the first thing i would check.

Edit: this is the louder noise when you blip the throttle that i am on about. The general rattle noise is common to all 1.8t's in my experience and sounds fairly normal to me.

Hmm interesting... I don't think it's a mount though as it seems a very mechanical sound rather than a clunk in person...

I'd say mount too. Probably that gone you would be able to tell without much work.
I've seen a 5 other 1.8t over the past year and they all sound like that running.

Ok so clutch depressed and rev it the same and the noise has disappears. Dual mass flywheel it seems!

Surely the dmf would sound the same whether you had your foot on the clutch or not, as the flywheel is still spinning in both cases.

Yeah it's still spinning but without any load or drag when it's disengaged from the box. For want of a better explanation there is no weight on the fly wheel when the clutch is pressed.

Ok, but you have to agree It's much cheaper do to a engine mount than a DMF. Even if both opinions above are wrong I'd definitely take a look first at engine mounts.

But when the clutch is pressed it doesn't do it... so it's clutch related. If I had no idea what it was then yes engine mount would be cheaper.

Pushing the clutch down to see if it stopped would of been the first thing I did...not post a video of not doing that.
Whip the box off and have a look, best bet now and at the same time you can have a look at the mounts.
