There's been this annoying rattle in the car fro the past couple of weeks. Last night I finally tracked it down to the handbrake button.

Any ideas for a solution - spraying it with silicone has helped a bit.

Simon.

I sometimes have this problem too....... as of yet i haven't found a solution apart from sticking my thumb on the button just to re-position it. This normally works for a while but isn't a long term solution.

I'll be interested if anyone has any ideas too.

This problem has recently developed on mine as well. I had posted a query on audisport as someone over there had this fixed on their A3. They said the dealer tech had 'packed out' the button somehow.

Also, don't know if this has any connection but I need new rear pads on mine...just wondered if the pads were fitted and the handbrake cable tighted would this stop the problem. I can get the vibration to stop by holding the button or further down the shaft of the handbrake as well...this makes me think that it's the whole mechanism within the handbrake rather than just the button. Hoping to get new pads fitted soon so will let you know if that cures it.

(Having said all that I've had the rear pads replaced before and the button never rattled before that....of course there's 80,000 miles on it so everything rattles to some extent)

Just ram a bit of thick paper/thin card in there..... thats happened to me before, never again since. (You can't see the card either, so dont worry)
