Well, my FR CR has got 12,800 miles on the clock now, with Revo stage 1 from 7500 miles when I picked it up from the dealer.

I know there has been lots of 'debate' about poor / good MPG claims from the CR engines, so I thought I'd post up a real world report as I wanted to check for myself how good or bad they really are !

The car is run on 'nomal' diesel - its not running super duper V-Max etc, I'm a normal driver, I like a quick sprint up the main or back roads just like anyone else !

I've kept a log recently for both journies to and from work including going shopping and quick thrashes through the back roads, and also on our 800 mile round trip to Le-Mans last weekend.

Daily driving which is 15 miles of back roads and 25 miles of main roads is landing me with approximately 540 miles to a tank, the tank is brimmed to the top and I wait until the orange light first comes on. Currently MPG is averaging 46.9 mpg over approximately 5000 miles !

Now on our trip down to Le-mans, 2 people in the car and fully loaded boot and rear seats I managed to average 48.8mpg, this was with cruise set a lot of the time at approx 80mph, but never less than 70mph

On the way home we picked up the pace a little ! cruising anywhere from 85-100mph all the way left me with an average of 44.6mpg, picked up a couple of stone chips on the front bumper from the TVR crew and Nissan GTR that I was following for 100 miles !

All the figures are calculated using my GPS for mileage and keeping a note of exactly how much fuel I put into the tank each time.

I've tried a week of driving to and from work at only 60mph (Boring though it is), the fuel consumption rises to around 55mpg (again worked out using GPS and fuel measurement).

I reckon that the cars built in MPG display reads approx 2mpg higher than my calculated real world figures, so its not too bad I suppose.

So overall I'm really impressed with the FR CR engine, smoother and quieter than the old PD lumps. Bring on the next few thousand miles in the FR !

Top review and couldn't really argue with any of the figures as I'm pretty much the same.

Car is only on 9000 miles and I have had it from new. The first 4000 were quite poor I thought. However I realise this was most likely down to the harsh winter we had. I had some days of starting the engine at -10c. It's a massive difference between cold and warmer starts with regard to MPG.

Best I've had is a 400 mile round trip doing between 50mph for about 100 miles of that and 70mph for motorway stretch got me 57mpg. In real terms was looking to be around 54mpg.

Common rail is blatantly quieter, power delivery is also really smooth... So knowing the MPG will improve over time, may there be many more miles of driving infront of me. :)

Over 9000 miles my CR FR averaged about 45mpg longer run at a steady 70mpg 55mph. A stop start urban journey would see 35 mpg though. I reckon the Exeo will be not far off maybe 3-4 mpg less than the Leon,

Been averaging around 47mpg lately in my CR FR DSG. Mixture of B roads, around town and the occasional blast up and down dual-carriage ways. Have seen up to 57mpg on the MFD. Car has done just over 5K from new and has been run on Total Excellium with Millers Diesel Eco-Power Max since day one.

I'm 2k off 30,000 miles and normally get over 50mpg on 40 mile one way trip to work using A/B roads.

At my last fill up got 614 miles which worked out at 52 mpg.

However this does drop below 50 with spirited driving.

My 11 mile commute to the office see's everything from 38mpg up to 52mpg depending on the traffic and my mood ;)

On a decent motorway run or longer A roads the average on trip 1 will show around the low 50's.

Trip 2 average is currently 45mpg and i dont ever reset that one. From a full tank i'm seeing 500 - 520 miles.

i'm still to be convinced on the newer cr engines myself, no question they are much cleaner and quieter engine but so far the mpg doesn't seem that impressive to me

granted the engine is more powerful in both standard and remapped forms, but i can quite easily get 60mpg on a long run in my stage 1 pd 150. still if i needed a diesel to replace mine i'd go with a newer cr unit :p

Personally i find it better than the 130bhp TDCI mondeo mine replaced but then i dont have to work the Leon as hard to get around in the same fashion... granted the mondeo is a bigger heavier car but you had to work it hard to get it to move where the Leon just moves

I find a great deal of comfort in the fact that the worst MPG i can get is still 4-5mpg higher than best mpg my mates Octy vRS 2ltr tsi can achieve and yet he's not making that much ground on me in real terms ;)

I have a tunit unit on mine from new, but it gets plenty of stick round the country roads near me and i average a steady 47.1 mpg.

if i take it steady on a run on the m-way i will get early 60's.

its recently had its 2nd service, but did notice a difference in mpg after the 1st service

had my car (DSG cr 170 FR) since may 2010 and its almost reached 10k miles now.
when i got it was returning low 30's week in week out....on a steady run on dual carrriageways id see mid-high 40's.
now on my steady work i return low 40's if driven steady.

i dont drive like a knob but i dont hang about either and its trip 2 readings is 39.9 over the last say 1000 miles....so not bad...but not brilliant.

but that said, the same style driving in a FR tsi woudl be retuning high 20's mpg at best....

urban mate im shocked how bad it is and its very rarely i put my foot down

Sounds about right for an urban drive mine would drop to 36mpg they are much better
on longer run's. My FR TSi is not far off my FR TDi on an urban drive. Longer runs you will see 47-50 mpg easily.

I thought i drove reasonably quickly up to and just around the speed limit so getting the figures i'm getting is pretty good reading what some of you are seeing.

My 11 mile commute is 50/50 motorway and A / B roads and before i reach work in the morning or home in the evening the MPG for that trip will have reached 50mpg or just under.

That is slotting 6th when the indicator suggests it though and running up through the gears fairly quickly to that speed.

for info, i just nursed my car to work, no hard acelleration, and no speeds above legal limit.
car was on 44 mpg when i pulled into work. the drive is 18 miles, 95% A road carriageways.
