Rear door lock replacement

Hi,

Recently my off side door lock has stopped operating correctly (the door will lock but will not unlock unless you pull the handle from inside the car). I had the drivers door lock do the same thing on me and I successfully replaced that (although it was a bit of a git!).

Has anyone replaced a rear door lock? I am assuming that its the same as the front and may even be easier? I just thought I would check, as whenever I make assumptions things generally go horribly wrong!

Might me an obvious question but have you checked child lock is not on

Does anyone else have issues with door locks? I replaced the drivers last year, now a second one needs replacing and the other two are now throwing up fault codes!!

Very common fault unfortunately, the microswitches and contacts inside them tend to fail. You don't always have to replace the lock though, in my case I just resoldered the terminals and cleaned up the copper contacts.

Edit: I've only just noticed you have a mark 2, I don't know whether the above comment applies. I had naturally assumed that with the number of faults you had an older mark 1.

If the only way of opening is to pull the inside handle, I'm guessing that it's off.

Yeah nothing to do with child lock, fob unlocks all doors except one.

Also having the same problem, drivers door rear, will open from inside but not outside. Have you fixed this?

Nope, I did get myself a second hand one off the bay and fitted that, but that too was faulty!!! Need to find another. Job isnt too hard to do if you manage to source one.

Do you have the correct part number for the lock mate?

Mine has started to do the same!

I think its 1P0839016 but if you see a photo of it they are cream coloured whereas all other VAG stuff is black (maybe coincidental though!)

if you have already had the lock replaced and it's still not working could be the electrics
