Rear lights

Hi, newbie to forum!

Have an 06 plate seat altea. Have been having the usual problem with the rear lights. Have now replaced the bulb holders, but the drivers rear light isn't working at all. I've checked all the bulbs, swapped light etc. And the lights aren't the problem. I can t find any problems with the fuses either. Does anyone know what else I can check before I leave it the dealer?? Or at least tell me which fuse does the rear lights??

Thanks

Neil

First of all, if you swapped the bulb from the old unit to the new, check the soldered tip on the bulb housing hasn't 'flattened' off through arcing - thats why the old holder 'failed'!!! Just add more solder to it so that it is rounded again or swap it.

If that is OK. Then...

Make sure you have power and an earth at the end of the connector supplying the light unit and that the pins have not backed out. Out of the 3 pins, one supplies the stop/tail, one the indicator, the remaining is earth. Just connect a working bulb across the connector pins. (you can work out which does what by following the circuits through the lamp).

If you have power and earth at the connector, then the problem must be around the light unit and connections.
Check the bulb works first (and its rating on the case) and then when it is in the holder by connecting it across the battery.

Make sure the harness connector pins are able to close onto the bulb holder connections correctly.

That should be it! There is nothing else to check...

Having a similar problem with my wifes 54 plate Altea rear near side. Having to replace bulb at least once a month because they keep blowing. I'm guessing it's the bulb holder connections shorting. Does anybody have a part number for the holder so that I can search other than the Stealers. Cheers
