Noticed a serious problem yesterday when the brakes started to make a rotating scratching noise. Upon inspection I noticed the off-side rear brake pad was sheering off, and sliding out from under the caliper! How ridiculous.

Then on the way to the garage, the pad completely slides out and metal is grinding with metal. :wtf:

I put my hazard warning lights on and baby it for another 2 miles to the garage. The brake disc need replacing as it is scored. Hopefully the caliper does not need replacing. Starting to worry about the other 3 pads now, thankfully it wasnt the front brake pads!

Sounds like a dodgy fit by the previous owner / stealers?

Ive had the car since March, typical! 48k miles on the clock. Has anyone known of this to happen before? Has it happened to you?

Should I contact my stealers and try an claim, it is not under warranty.

It sounds like the pad came away from the backplate. The back plate of pads is held in by the caliper so sounds like cheapo pads fitted and one failed.

Stealers wont do anything unless of course they serviced it and did it recently.

Brake pads are considered consumerables.

As above, sounds more like crappy or defective pads than the calipers letting go.

However, I would recommend a good check all round to be confident you dont want to screw up another set of discs
