Remote fob central locking only works when near

Remote fob only works when held right next to drivers window. Fob has flashing red light, changed battery recently.

Fob doesn't work from a distance (did for first few years). Wondering if it could be bit inside the car which receives the signal as the fob itself appears to work ok.

Any ideas anyone? Obviously I would like the fob to work from a distance like how it did before. Muchas gratias :)

I personally would suspect the fob being a bit worn out maybe, there's really not much in the car. There's an ariel wire up the drivers pillar and the ccm and that's it.

Would it be worth having a look under the pillar, or just get a new key fob and re programme it??

It might be worth a bit of googling about testing the fob with vagcom, I know you can test the various buttons for the windows etc so you might be able to test the remote fob too, not sure but worth a little search. Failing that I'd probably get a fob off ebay and try that, just swap over the immo chip but be careful, destroy the fob by all means but don't break the chip or you'll cry lol.

If that doesn't work you can pick up another ccm for 10 - 20 quid, there's only the key fob and the ccm that can go wrong but seeing as the fob is the most handled it's the most likely of the two to have issues.

The key has been seen better days tbh. I hope it is the key, as i was expecting it to be something more complicated and expensive. Thanks for the advice dude ;)

I reckon I get around 50ft or so but I tend to use it closer as it relocks itself after a certain length of time. I was lucky though as the keys I got were ok so I just bought a case with blade for £6 and got it cut for £12 then swapped over the insides. I don't know where the idea comes from that it works further away though, that makes no sense lol. If you touch it against the side of your head it works further, weird but true :D

50ft jesus, id be happy with about half that mate :D In all fairness its not gonna be that costly so i might as well give it a go, but its strange that can make a difference lol. I was told a long time ago to put the key under your chin and it worked so well on my old car, i think clarkson mentioned it on an old top gear as well :D Ill update this thread if it works
