Would I need anything else other than a splitter tool apparently
Cheers in advance

Well wasn't sure as states shock/strut so thought to ask, has some spring compressors somewhere.... Thanks for the info....

No worries mate, don't forget the top mount and lower spring cup rubber.
Oh and a spring.[B)]

Have you thought of complete assemblies from a breakers? just a thought as that would be easy if you changed the whole strut/spring assembly.

Good plan... Saw a pair on ebay but for a 1.4...not sure the springs would be the correct type/spec...but would at least be most of the way there....... On another note freed up the caliper carriers so new discs this weekend... Chippin away lol...

the best choice of OE shocks would be Sachs fronts dia 50mm unless you've got 184 bhp. Cast front assembly. use reference sport fr*(i have 2.0 TDI lump) shock 5q0 413 023FM coil spring dot -yellow/blue/red and rear set up will depend on your rear axle multi-link or torsion beam.? I have a torsion beam and rear shocks 5q0 512 013FK, rear springs 5q0 511 121EC (but get it confirmed with the chaps from the parts in Listers Seat - forum sponsors you'll get a discount) if you're on a budget get the aftermarket shocks, top mount kit incl. bearings then coil springs from dealers as they are designed for the weight of the front axle gearbox (the difference between DSG and manual due to the weight)etc... rather than generic springs and last twice as long. Also, you might need McPherson strut tool to install new mount/spring/dust covers etc. and torquing it to correct values.
