I have just purchased a VW RNS 510 Version F for my 2008 Seat Leon FR and i have noticed a few things in which i want to clear up before i can put my mind to rest.

Sorry if i have brought these up that people have disscued before, but i can only fined these Issues for 2006/2007 Seat leons, but from what i have read changes where made for seat leons 2008 onwards.

  • When i turn the ignition on the radio comes on straight away (which is to be expected) but i have never seen a VW start up screen that everyone sees, but then changes to a Seat version. This is no biggy but just want to know why it dosen't do it on mine.

  • When i turn the ignition off and remove the key, obviously the radio goes off but i can still hear the fan spinning and i am able to then turn the radio back on manually. Is this normal? i am just worried if this is related to the BATTERY DRAIN problem that users have experience.

  • Again this is no biggy but is there a solution to the steering wheel controls? only able to use the volume buttons.

Thanks in advance for any relies, just didn't want to spend money tring to solve something that is normal.

1. Not sure about the splash screen, I have a VW one fitted in my 2010 Cupra Facelift (had it previously fitted to my 2008 FR too), and before it was possible to change the splash screen it used to show the VW splash screen, I have since then changed this to a SEAT one. The splash screen doesnt come on all of the time its only if you have had the car switched off for around 10 minutes+ it will then boot back up again and you will see the splash screen.

2. Fan runs on mine for around 5 minutes after I have switched the car off and is normal, if it runs for say 30 mins after you have switched it off I would check to make sure it is not draining the battery (depends on what model your CAN gateway is but on a 2008 plate it should be ok). The unit will do a power up when you unlock the car as well (to help reduce startup times of the device, so if you lock the car and unlock it again 30 mins later to see if you still hear the fan it is possible that you have actually powered the device back up when unlocking the car). Being able to turn the radio on after the key is removed is standard behavior too.

3. You need to get someone with VAG COM (VCDS) to code your can gateway to tell the car it has a RNS510 fitted and then should link up ok with the steering wheel controls. Mine has been perfect in both my current cupra and the previous FR

So you shouldn't have anything to worry about to be honest, get the device coded by VAG COM or dealer and you will be fine.

Sorry to hijack a little, but I want to fit the RNS to my FL Cupra and wondered if the Aux USB and din sockets still work when it is fitted?

Many thanks

My fan sounds on for 5 mins or so too.
