As above is it ok to run a new turbo without having it custom mapped? Ive heard different things from a couple of companies now and just wondered if anyone had an opinion. I'll soon be running a hybrid but cant get it mapped for about a week after fitting.......will this be ok?

Assume your getting the bits fitted down here and then taking it elsewhere?

Ive also heard mixed things, sure the boost being lower it should be ok but

Yeh I need it fitting asap because the old 1 is making a right racket! Getting the turbo fitted elsewhere and remapped at the supplier later on.

BTW when your turbo blew did it fill the intercooler with oil and make a general balls of everything?

Yes, the Seat garage were very clever and aswell as writing a big report which such clever things as

"Suspected turbo failure"

1. No oil in engine (tapping)
2. Oil all over back of car

Hmm how bright are they?

Also wouldnt replace a broken drinks holder as I had a :

Aftermarket headunit

Wouldnt replace a ignition switch as I had a :

After market alarm system (err I just turned on the bleeps in 5051  )

Out of interest what turbo are you getting? Where you getting it fitted and then mapped? As im in the same boat as you minus my new turbo isnt going to blow up (touchwood) soon!

Im really worried now about the drive to the garage :( Im getting it fitted at demon tweaks in wrexham, the turbo is hopefully arriving tomorrow from jabba and I'm also getting them to remap it. Its the 150pd hybrid same as Mikey_H.

Is there any last second warning that the turbo is going to blow? Its howling all the time so im trying to drive it off boost.....very difficult lol. But the drive to wrexham about 45 miles away, I'm considering getting it towed there?

No last second warning im afriad, just BANG!

Out of interest again, why did you go the jabba sport turbo and remap?

i spoke to alard and they said its fine to run a tdi with hybrid unmapped as it just runs lean(less power) untill mapped they said i could run it this way for years!! as i have the same problem i am having a vt2 fitted near me and mapped by jabba

Well jabba said its not a good idea and they dont warrenty their turbos till they have mapped it, I think i'll just take it easy till its remapped. How are you finding allards customer service? Have you recieved the turbo yet?

Thanks for your PM mate, im tempted to go with Jabba (again!) now

I personally wouldn’t take any unnecessary risks when your spending a lot of money on a hybrid.

If i was you i'd drive the car as it is to get the hybrid fitted then get the car transported either home or direct to the mapping place. I got my old ibiza transported on a low loader and he charged £1 per mile which i thought was quite reasonable.

I ran my VT2 unmapped for a month when it was first fitted, and my VT5 ran in a rather erratic state of tune before Allard calmed it down. I don't think there's anything wrong with it. :)

That sounds a bit cautious because it'll be atleast a week til its remapped and I cannot live without a car lol. Think I'll drive it slowely.....ish :D

i wouldn't have thought it would be a huge problem i ran my hybrid on a very toned down map 200.08bhp for about 5 weeks and it was fine and even months on and now overboosting to 46psi and its fine, but i have a new problem now splitting hoses, i have been through the stages of popping hoses off and snapping the clips so i got sfs to make me aload of pipes and having the custom fmic got rid of alot of them but i just split a 2 inch hole into the pipe that comes directly off the turbo and its £85 which concidering all the other ones i have ever broken were £35 is quite a bit if it starts doing it on a regular basis :s hopefully have mine back on the road on saturday as jabba sent the new pipe yesyerday.

thats funny cos jabba told me it would be fine for them to send me there hybrid,me fit it then drive it down to them for them too map, different advice for different people it seems.i'm 200 miles from jabba.
