sachs sre clutch kit problems

Hi. Had a sachs sre clutch kit fitted about 5 months ago. Right from the first mile it would smell when doing hill starts or parking. I was told that the clutch needed bedding in then it would be better.

So 5 months later and 5000 miles here I am. Still smells reserving up hills or hill starts and now it also makes a whining noise I have been in touch with sachs and they said it is not normal but arent prepared to give me a new clutch without seeing the old one which is fair enough. Got in touch with the garage and they will take out the clutch but I have to pay for the labour. So more money!!!! I am hoping that the clutch has a defect of some kind so I will get a new one, but also wondering if it has been installed wrong.

Can anyone tell me what to look out for on the installation side just so the garage doesnt try and fool me and tell me everything is fine.


If anybody has a similar problem i would be interested in your experience.
I have owned this car a while and it is not my driving style or the fact I am riding the clutch. It will smell and whine even if I have only done 3 miles. Please help because the bill will be exceeding £1500 it total for parts and labour in total once they pull it out again. So need some help guys and girls.

If the part is defective then you should be able to claim labour costs from the supplier. Depending on the garage if they supplied the part and its found to be faulty they might just recoup the cost from supplier, not many will do this though as it can take a while. Apparently there have been quite a few quality issues from sachs recently.

I agree with what Jopo said, if the part has failed within the warranty period (which it sounds like it has) then labour should be covered as well.

Who supplied the part? Did you buy it and give to garage or did they supply it? And who did you get it from if you bought it?

Their clutches are crap, fitted one at work was duff straight away so had to take out then sach say out claim was void as some grease was on realise bearing bunch of tossers never fitting them again luk ftw

They supplied and fitted the clutch. I only asked for this set up as I thought it was a tough bit of kit. Lots of people rate them on here but I am beginning to think otherwise. If it is a installation problem,has anybody got any ideas what could of been done wrong. As it is at the moment I feel that sachs wont take responsibility and neither will the garage so I am abit annoyed. Should of got a standard clutch and treated it carefully and bought a fmic instead. Lol

You need the garage on board, ultimately you need to tell them its their problem, either they have fitted something wrong or the clutch is defective - either way they supplied and fitted it so it should be up to them to put it right, they are able to claim from their supplier for defective parts.

Sachs used to be pretty good but as I said, recently there have been quite a few people having issues with them. I think borg and beck have quite a good rep if that helps
