Sat Nav, but which one??

Hi Guys,

my Mrs has been banging on about getting me one of them sat nav gizmo's. I do want one but with so much choice, which is the best in terms of what I get and value for money, can I get your thoughts and even perhaps links to websites please.

Tom Tom One is everything that you will probably need for getting about the UK, good value for money. Higher spec models do more stuff, but doubtful you'll ever need it.

I think Halfords are doing it for around £178.

Tom Tom is probably the best all rounder - Good features, easy to use and not v.expensive.

Cheapest I've seen is the Tom Tom One - around £185 on Amazon.co.uk.

I'd go for a Tom Tom as well. My last 2 have been Tom Toms and compared to some of the other my mates have had it's really good. If you want European mapping get the 710 or 910 (the 910 has text to speach so actually tells you road names, 710 doesn't). Go for the 510 if the UK is what you need.

I know they do the One now but I have no experience of it but it is cheaper.

I am thinking of getting a AA Navigator as from what I can see it does the same as a Tom Tom One but only costs £150.

The other choice is to get a PDA with a built in GPS reciever and a copy of Tom Tom 5 or 6. This is what I did and its one of the best things i have ever brought. It gives you the best of both worlds.

My first Sat Nav was a PDA running Tom Tom. It was great but the main problem with it for me was that if you let the battery die on the PDA you had to reinstall all the software again. Not a problem if you keep it on charge all the time.

ive got a nav man n40i

happy with it so far, slim and good features and you can update poi's off internet for the likes of speed cameras etc

one thing to note is the speedcamera feature is a subcription package you have to download updates for whatever the make of sat nav. you can get updates off internet for £12 pm or something.

I've just got one of the new TomTom One Europes for just under £200 from Currys. Amazingly I can get a lock on the satellites inside the house which my old bluetooth GPS unit never used to do.

I think so, but not 100% sure as I haven't looked at it yet, but I suspect that'll cost money.

Mine contains all the maps for Western Europe and was £199.75 including delivery from Currys using various codes, but I'll dig them out if you want.

Get a nav cam 6200....!!!! they are £100 at Asda atm and are amazing with touch screen and everything....really good value for money that good that i bought a few for my mates to buy back off me while the offer is still on...

It even does speed cameras...

just looked its 40 euros per year plus the mobile call costs... not cheap!
