Sat Nav upgrade

Hi all,

I own a 2015 Seat Leon Cupra 280 and my sat nav sd card is now 6 years old, I'm looking to buy a more recent one (2020/2021 ideally) and I've found one on ebay which says it fits Leon nav systems aged 2015-2018, but it also says it only works on MIB2 standard units and not on MIB Gen 1 units or MIB1 standard units. I've looked all over to find out what my unit is but was unable to find out. Can anyone let me know what my unit is or link me to an sd card that will fit in my car?

Thanks in advance!

Try posting in the Leon Mk3 section as this is a SEAT car and not a Cupra branded car that this section is for, and someone there should be able to help.

Well the nav versions are common between brands mib1, mib2, mib3 etc but the mib1 and mib2 conversation started on the Leon 3 thread. Mib2 and mib3 are in the Cupra brand.

The question is whether your unit is mib1 or mib2. Handy resource on all of this that hangs off the long running mib conversation thread (not that I wrote it):

To answer your question on mib1 or mib2 you use the standard Seat test:

Press the “NAV” Button >

Confirm the “Setup” >

“Version information” selection on the display.

Check the first text line in "Version information".

If the first three digits are 6P0 it's a mib2 standard (serial number is also on the card)

5F with a mapping card in the slot it's mib1 standard

If not it's a mib1 or 2 "Navi System Plus" (no card in the slot)

(Other techniques are available - that's that the Seat website test)

If the line reads 6P.... You are in luck it's a mib2 standard and the workaround applies to updates. 5F... out of luck, it's an old mib1. Nobody has found a user way to update the map card without a visit to the dealer and worse than that mib1 updates ceased in 2020. A retrofit is the order of the day for those people that love their car and want up-to-date maps in it. Recommend you dont tour scrap cards looking for a box etc due to component protection but get the job done by a retrofitter or buy the components from them if you fancy a DIY task. mib2 updates for the standard should be good till 2025 based on the 5 year aftercare of mib on VW after a version change.
