hi all.

im from belgium and i drive a seat leon 1.8tsi from 2010.
now if got it a year and it had a custom (propper) remap.
from the originele 160hp->232hp and 250nm->380nm, well been thinking off a second step.
or even beter stage2 /3.

but i want to know if the internals from the engine will hold up with even more power.
well the parts needed for more power will be:
full milltek exhaust
Fmic/swamp the stock for bigger/ beter
air intake
bigger turbo , dont know witch one yet.
prolly clutch to

if any one know's more about it plz do let me know.
il post some pics up and a shot off the dyno like it looks now when i have the 15 post's :p.

Sadly we don't get the 1.8TSi in the uk as there is not the demand. I know the 1.8TSi is based on the 2 litre TSi that is in the FR/Golf GTi ect so many pars such as FMIC can be changed. Don't think the pistons are as strong though so I cannot see you getting much above 270Bhp as a guess I think the 1.8TSi uses the same Clutch and gearbox as the 2 litre TSi.

If you are looking to change the turbo as well then you maybe better off going for a Cupra or something unless tax liability comes into play.

Well apparently you can get to about the same level of performance as a stage 2+ 2.0TFSI!!!

The spec list is:
ECU remap
S3/Cupra OEM K04 turbocharger
THS Intercooler
Full exhaust 76mm-70mm
EVOMS intake
Forge BOV

I bet it must also get better fuel economy... AND it appears it needs no HPFP!!!

mailed those greek guy's, but did not get anything back yet.

don't think clutch and gear box are the same.
small difference in rotations.

cupra is no option here, way to costly and tax/insurance will kill me :p.
don't know about hpfp though.
anyway thx for the info guys ;).

hmmm looks a bit suspect tbh... why would VW bother with a 2.0 if a 1.8 could do the job perfectly well?

Same reason Audi did not use the 1.4TSi customer perception of small engine being too weedy. VAG will replace the 2 litre with a 1.6 within a couple of years now people have got use to the idea of smaller displacement not meaning weedy power delivery.

The only difference between the two engines is the stroke is shorter on the 1.8 TSi and the 2 litre has a different turbo from what I have been able to find, but clutch and gearbox ratings are the same even if the ratios are slightly different.

I think people have known for a while that dispalcement needs to come down in favour of smaller (and fewer cylinder) turbo and twin turbo engines. There is in fact a reference to the next GTI having a 1.6 turbo engine at some VW section of the Nurburgring theme park (sorry can't provide a picture :( my mate deleted most of his facebook pictures recently...)

So if the engines are so similar, an Awesome GTI K04 conversion kit + TBE, intake, HPFP, FMIC should see between 300 and 360bhp dependant on mapping right? I wonder if there would be any benefits over the 2.0...hmmmm

Auid held off from having the 1.4TSi and did not take the twin charger in fear that Audi buyers may not like a small displacement engine. Yes the next Gen GTi will have the 1.6 litre 200Bhp engine also mooted for the on off Polo R. The MKIII Leon will arrive before the next Golf/Golf GTi so not sure if the next gen FR will get it or wait for it to become available

As long as you change the stroke in theory yes. But I have no idea if the 2 litre has stronger pistons and conrods however?

got mail back from the greek guys :).
they say that its save for the engine until 380hp and 470nm torque.
but im close to the limed on the clutch 390nm is the limed and allready run 380nm atm.

it seems like its not that bad as i thought it would be.
il post when new mods are done ;).

here's how the mapping looks atm.

Hi
I own Leon 1.8 TSI with K04 installed, the current setup is 300 KM/360 Nm due to clutch limitations.
Any idea how to upgrade 1.8 TSI clutch, as Sachs cannot offer any performance clutch at the moment ?
The current setup:
