Seat leon fr 1.9 tdi 150 straight through exhaust?

Hi everybody I am new here. I bought a mk1 leon fr 1.9 tdi at the start of the weekend and just have a couple of questions about the exhaust. It does not have the standard exhaust on it, instead it has a straight through pipe on it with no boxes at all, not even a back box.
So is this good or bad? Does it make it faster/slower/no different? Will it pass an mot? And is there anything I need to know about them?

mine is the same, old regs allowed for no cat on diesel but it will become an issue this year where all cars need a cat. or get a friendly MOT tester to help out.

It will always add performance as there are no restrictions allowing exhaust gases to escape quicker.

It also sounds **** hot on full chat! louder and more aggressive than many petrol equivalents loads of my friends say it sounds like it wants to eat everything on the road haha

Thank you for the help. It doesn't have a cat as far as I can see. So I take it, it will probably fail it's next mot. At the start of 2015. It does sound very nice when you put your foot down. But it does sound very whistley. Is this normal?

My FR TDI is very whistly, so I think it's normal.

I gather without a CAT you will fail the MoT if the car was originally fitted with one. Mine's a 2004 and has a cat.

Worth checking for any leaks from the pressure pipework between the turbo, intercooler and inlect manifold though as the bayonet fittings wear and the rubber o-ring seals they use can become less effective with time. Some oil seepage from the joints (particularly the lower hoses either side of the intercooler) is normal but lots of oil spatter on nearby areas suggests leakage. The rubber seals were upgraded from black to green at some stage.

I think its suprising how much you can hear the turbo whistling when accelerating. Mine has a standard exhaust and remap.
