Does anyone else find that their seat belt warning light goes off when there is something really light on it?

I can get mine to go off just by lightly touching the area where the sensor is. Even my wallet will set it off!

The garage have told me it's not too sensitive, but for it to go off when my wallet is on the seat seems absurd!

BTW, my wallet isn't heavy! :p

I often place my work bag on the passenger seat, and this can set it off.

Talked to the dealer and they said that it couldnt be disabled. :( Now where is the dinging box and a pair of cutters. :D

If you look elswhere on the forum you will find this appears to be a very common fault especially on earlier models.

Mine goes off occasionally even when nothing has been placed on the seat or when someone has been sat there but has got out.

I seem to remember it was attributed to a faulty seat membrane. I will get the dealer to look at it at the 10,000 mile service

I had the seat base sensor replaced under warranty as the alarm (ding ding) was going off at random times with nothing at all on the seat.

I can now have lighter things on the seat without the alarm going off. Anything over about a 4 pinter of milk will set it off.

i can touch the passenger seat and it sets the ding of, spoke to the dealer about it and they weren't interested, its a feckin stupid design as i pointed out whats the average adult weight?.. 2-3grams i dont think, looks like a connector under neath the seat can be pulled out to disable the sensor.

noooooooo, the bells the bells they drove me mad u know !!!!!
hate the st for dinging me to belt up, now as I put a heavy briefcase and folders on the passenger seat every day u mean im gonna get it in stereo !!!!.
spose its connect the passenger belt and leave it time unless someone knows how to disable it.

ahhhh just saw 12strings reply after posting.....can this be done to both seats without tripping some built in safety/nanny state electric charge to your testes to prompt u to reconnect it ????

I am a health and safety officer by the way so not advocating not wearing seatbelts just the removal of annoying reminder bells for something most do automatically.. [others press the seatbelt button in leave it off and play russian roulette with the windscreen.]
