Hi guys,

Been a frequent user of VCDS-Lite over the past few years but have got a problem with the program now and I'm a bit stuck!

Basically the whole program runs very slowly, even when not connected to a car! I'm running VCDS-Lite release 1.1. Once I open the program, it displays very slowly, with each icon pretty much appearing one by one! It gets no better when plugged into the car, if I try and scan anything I just get excessive comms errors.

Any ideas? I've searched the web but can't find any problems like it?

Cheers.

That'll be something else running on your machine hogging all the resources. Next time you open it, have task manager open (right click on the bar at the bottom and 'start task manager'. Have it open at processes, and sort by CPU (click on the CPU column). When running VCDS, see which process hits the top.

I've had very recent issues with Firefox taking 99% CPU, even when I thought I'd closed it. I've had to uninstall and reinstall it to get it to work properly.

You might be onto something there Slimy, I am a FireFox user. I'll try running VCDS tomorrow with task manager open as you've suggested, will let you know how it goes.

Cheers
Chris

Slimy,

Looks like you were correct, although the offending problem appears not to be FireFox...

I sorted the processes via CPU as you said, and could see VCDS yo-yo-ing up and down the list, with "Rapport" software climbing above it from time to time.

I uninstalled the Rapport program (something offered by many banks to help with protection for online banking) and VCDS is instantly faster and more stable as a program, however I've not tried it in the car yet. But the program does appear to be back to it's normal self.

Turns out this Rapport software has affected PC performance for many people, a quick Google search shows many cases. My PC's performance in general has also improved notably.

So thanks for your help Slimy, big thumbs up to you.

Excellent news! There's very few programs that need to be running all the time, anti virus is probably the main contender. It sounds like this Rapport stuff could have done with just being active when it's needed, then at least it would have saved you all this grief.
