been looking at these tuners that look like they have several maps on and adjust to every state of tune or is it a load of poo. my mate had a box that pluged into his maf then into his port and was this the same piece of crap.
 
£300 gets you a custom remap configured to your exact needs... Search for Bell Autos and P-Torque on this forum, or pay a little more for Revo, Custom Code, etc.. Any form of tuning box is a waste of money - just save up for the proper thing.

Errr....that statment is a bit harsh and too conclusive...
I had fitted for a while on my PD TDI150 a digital Rapid tuningbox (with an on/off switch) with excelent results (+30bhp/90Nm) without any noticable soot. Just as fast on the road and effective as most "standard" remaps out there with the plus of being able to revert to stock mode whenever wished.
I had my Golf remaped just after fitting an hybrid turbo, so that I could take full advantadge of it. If I had kept my original turbo, I would still be running that miraculous little box.

There have been many threads regaring this topic, have a search and make up your own mind, personally I would rather have a map by a physical tuner than plug a little box into my car, just me though.

Have you looked into a custom code map yet? Have a look at www.custom-code.co.uk for details on what a custom code phase one can offer your particular engine.

The all important thing to look out for with a re-map is the way in which the power and torque is delivered, not simply figures. With a custom code map you can be assured that power delivery and torque will be smooth with the curve carrying up the rev range, not tailing off early like the standard map or some of the other mapping options available. This is done whilst still achieving the desired improvement in performance figures.

It is also worth mentioning that custom code now offers switchable technology on the PD TDI range of engines allowing the software to be changed between standard and performance via a vag com equipped laptop. As well as an optional extra third mode, for examlpe a high torque towing mode.
