Iv got a seat leon 06 1.9 tdi I was having trouble starting my car so i went to Halfords and they fitted a new battery and that sorted the starting issue but it’s created another problem the steering light has come on they said after 50 m of driving it would go off but it hasn't any ideas

Normally after a battery change you’d had to recalibrate the steering angle sensor by just going full lock left to full lock right then the light should go out. Is the steering weight the same as normal or have you lost power steering?

The light is amber and the steering id says a little more heavy When I drove it home but it wasn’t when I drove to Halfords it was fine with the dodgy battery

Are you able to pop to the car now and try going full lock left to right to see if the light goes out? If you struggle to turn the wheel due it there being no power assist on the steering you have a problem on the steering for sure.

I’m at work now so I can’t get to the car right now but I tried turning it before I left Halfords it seemed ok it was just when I was driving back it felt bit mote heavy than normal but the light was still on when it says drive for 50m i know I sound dumb but is that miles or meters

I think metres they usually turn off after afew meters of driving after going full lock left to right. You might need to get it checked out at a garage if you have done what I said and the light is still there unfortunately.

It’s just funny it was fine till I got Halfords to fit a new battery is it possible they could of damaged something

I couldn’t comment on that one mate sorry. One thing I’ve learned tho things just fail on old cars it never makes sense half the time of why. I’ve spent hours thinking of reasons why my cars have mechanical failures out the blue like this. Can anyone reading this confirm power steering fuse is on top of the battery on a mk2 Leon? As I honestly can’t recall for the life of me.
