Stone chips on your Mk3 Cupra...

Hi everyone!

The old boy recently ordered his new 5dr Leon Cupra 290 in black, and I'm just wondering where the car is most susceptible to stone chips? Obviously the front bumper and potentially the bonnet, but has anyone had problems with the front wings (or any other area) getting hit with rocks, stones etc.? I run a Juke diesel as a company car and that seems quite easily chipped, but whether that's a mixture of bad roads, soft paint and consistent motorway driving (which tbf the Leon doesn't get much of, but we're looking to do Le Mans in the newbie in June) etc. it got me thinking.

Our current Mk2 has now covered ~12k and has the odd chip as to be expected (not driving it hard when it's out and about - honest!), but with the new Mk3 being an even deeper black, I'm considering an EXPEL treatment for the front end and potentially wings if necessary.

Any advice/tips would be greatly appreciated! Cheers :)

My Apollo blue fr is covered in stone chips on the bonnet and bumper. If I could go back I'd get the front bumper wrapped in clear wrap. Another Leon owner had it done and you barely notice it.

Some good advise there, the paint on Leons is very easily chipped, mainly on the bonnet I find.
You'll only get one chance!

Thanks for all the input guys!

Currently in talks with a mate to see what can be done cost wise for the front end. Looking forward to the car coming through now! Now to convince the old boy to put me on the insurance...

I think for the cost to wrap the car £900 - £2,000 just for the odd stone chip is I'd rather take the chance, save my money, and maybe once a year pay chips-away or similar £150 to repair any.

Or get a Chipex kit and repair them yourself for £30-£38, depending on the size of kit you get (chipex.co.uk)

Fair points by both of you but over the last few years I've really got into the detailing side of things through one of my best mates so really want to keep the car looking spot on - admittedly I am incredibly fussy anyway haha. Black is a right pig of a colour as well so it would seem silly personally not to look into the avenues of paintwork protection now he has the contacts to provide this.

It wouldn't cost £900 to wrap the front end. Cost me £175 for the roof, wing mirrors and grill surrounds/bumper So if you thinking of bonnet and bumper, you're probably looking at £250

The front bumper and the first part of the bonnet are on my 280 the most vulnerable areas and I had 3 places on the bonnet where it was visible chipped so I had to repair it with the original Seat repair kit.
Wrapping these areas could prevent it but it is not different from other brands.
