The dreaded slipping clutch

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a clutch change specialist in the Fife/Dundee/Central Scotland area as I need to have my clutch plate replaced.
I had it remapped a couple of years ago and the clutch is now starting to slip noticebly in 3rd gear. It has been manageable up to now and I knew when I had it done that this might be a problem, and decided that I would have it uprated when this started to happen.
Could you also please remind me what is the best upgraded friction plate to fit and will I need to have the pressure plate changed too.
Thanks

Marty

Anyone got any recommendations for a clutch change specialist given that I can buy the sachs clutch and pressure plate kit. Is it something that I should attempt myself?

I doubt you could do it yourself!
I would imagine the gearbox etc would need shifted.

Am I right in saying that the Allards uprated Clutch friction disc and pressure plate is only £387? (Is this Sachs)

Though im sure fitting would be another £300....

I got mine fitted locally for under £200.

Could UncleFester tell me if you have had the clutch in your Leon upgraded, your car seems to be the same year model as mine and a very similar power hike.

I've had the DMF replaced, new OE pressure plate and OE hydraulic bearing and an Allards uprated friction disc ( helix) . No more slipping since!

Fitting was about £200. It's a little noisier when cold but you really don't notice once its warmed up - clutch bite is a little agressive for the first few hundred miles but now it feels OEM again.

Thanks for that UncleFester and devonmikeyboy,

Sorry if I'm repeating previous threads, can you explain the options that I have i.e Sachs friction and pressure plate or Allards friction disc and OE pressure plate, and would I need to replace the DMF with either option or might it not need replacing. How much is a DMF and briefly what are the advantages of each set up?
Thanks Guys.

DMF needed changing on mine as it was completely shot to bits - that in itself can cause slipping. DMF is around the £250 mark :(

Allards friction disc simply works with the stock kit - handles the torque of the remap but is only good for stage one map.

if you're going to end up going for stage2 or bigger turbo .... or anything else that raises torque / bhp further you'd be better off going for a full sachs clutch.

Difference ..... £££££!!! Allards friction disc was about £237 delivered i think - the SACHS clutch will be about twice that + a bit!

Devonmikeyboy is the one to ask about upgraded Full clutches :)

Thanks,

Just checking the dyno print-out for for mine which shows 195bhp and 278lb-ft so seems similar or slightly less that yours, don't have any plans to upgrade the turbo. I suppose that i won't know the stae of the DMF until it is stripped out and inspected. I'd like to go down the easiest and cheapest route to fix it reliably so I will take the Allards route once I get the cash together for one and have a chat with my friendly local mechanic.

Worth having a ring around to see where you can get parts from, i am sure you can get the DMF Cheaper .... but i had no time to sort it out. I've done about 3k miles on the new clutch and i like the feel of it.
