I was on my way home from work tonight when i was sat at the traffic lights and started to hear a ticking noise which got louder and faster as a increased the revs, got home and ive been trying to diagnose were the noise coming from , its not the carbon canister by the way sounds like a tappety noise.
after an hour of reving and listening i got a doctors stefascope (what i must have looked like i dont know) the only place i can sort of pinpoint it to is the fuel rail . ive tried ontop of the cam cover and ontop of the rocker cover and they sound fine no knocking or tapping.
Would injectors make a loud tappety noise or do yous think this could be resonating from somewere else.
any suggestions please as im getting a sports cat and stage 2 on saturday and dont want to get it done if it could be something else

Check this bit with your stethoscope mate if it's from here then it's cam chain tensionour ;)

Pyro first place I checked after a search on here came up with about a 100 things it could be put the stefascope on there and it sounded silky smooth so I'm confident it's not the cam chain tensioner

Is changing the hydralic lifters a big job? mine's quite tappy as well!

if the hydraulic lifters are nackered cheaper to get a 2nd hand head or there is a company in birminham will rebuild ur head for £280 wud recomend changing gaskets whie the head is off

I have this ticking noise also in my Cupra R. I get my car around 2 years ago and from the starting I hear this strange noise. Sometimes it gets quicker and after a while it gets slower on idle and sometimes it disappers suddenly. I do not know what is it, but it is not connected to the engine RPM. Any idea???

There are two ticking noises - one is the carbon cannister (located next to the wing on drivers side) which apparently is normal - most LCRs have this noise present - the noise talked about in this thread is a tapping coming from near the fuel rail/injectors (if you take off the seat sport engine cover, its the part nearest the front of the car). If you only have the first noise, dont worry

As nobody has asked yet what happens if you have the second noise??

Take the sump off and clean or replace the oil pump intake filter mesh ............... not enough oil getting to top end because of restriction is most likely .............. its fatal to the engine if left to long and makes the h/ tappets rattle
