Hi All,

Im totaly new to this forum but im after some help. I have recently brought a Seat Leon 1.9TDI on a 53 plate, with 100k on the clock. It has had full Seat service history its entire life. Rite my problem is when im roughly doing 50+ MPH 4th gear (overtaking) i have a sudden loss of power and the car goes completly flat with the throttle to the deck. This does not go away and carrys on in 5th gear. If then drop down gears and start again i have no turbo kick in, just flat.

Please excuse im not very mechanical minded, and i have been told to change my fuel filter which i have had done with the full service (done at the weekend). I have noticed the air bubbles flowing through the clear hose pipe coming off the fuel filter itself. Can any one suggest/help with what could be wrong with car. I have to admit its not happening all the time, but its becoming very annoying.

Many thanks

Richie

And the power comes back when you restart the car? It's limp mode and very common, you'd be best to get the car scanned first to see what codes it's throwing up like overboost, underboost, intermitent boost etc.:)

Richie what you have there is classic limp mode mate. The turbo shuts down to save the rest of the engine in case of catastrophic failure.

It could be a simple fix like a split hose which is causing the turbo to over boost, or worst case the turbo needs replacing/reconditioning.

My advice would be to get the cars ECU fault code scanned and see what comes up, it may point straight to the problem and save you alot of time and money.

Hope this helps.

Get it hooked up to vagcom see if it has any codes up most comon causes of limp mode are split hoses mafs N75 valves N249 valves

Have a good look around at all the Hoses see if there's any splits holes etc and defo get It on vagcom see if any codes are coming up

Possibly the variable vane part of the turbo sticking.

Mine was doing this and the Mr Muscle oven cleaner method sorted it for £2.

i know exactly what this problem is . its 1 out of the 2 Turbos gone or the air mass senser

Only one turbo on any Leon/Toledo that I know of, or Golf come to that. MAF failure doesn't usually seem to give the sudden power cut when overtaking that is characteristic of the overboost failure.

have you hit a certian speed eg 80 and feel tht the cars lakin power???

That's the classic signs of overboost limp. Most common causes of that we see on here are:

1) Turbo vanes sticking, usually due to carbon buildup.
2) EGR valve sticking open

hppnd to me in my golf GTTDI

Is that like any Leon or Toledo? What engine did you have in your Golf GT TDI?

Overboost doesn't cause any lights on the dashboard but will be logged in the ecu.

I have the 1.9tdi 150bhp i have had a recon turbo fitted, the egr valve has been removed. But the turbo still seems to be not spooling and there is no boost had a vagcom system run on it and the only codes that come up are the egr not on and the cam sensor. I drove the car with the maf on and off but still cant seem to find why its not running properly atm just sounds like a 1.9 diesel

Anyone help???
