Hey guys. Just recently I've noticed a whistling/whining noise whenever I hit boost.

I've got a 2.0 16v tdi. 108000 miles if that helps.

It still pulls fine. No smoke out the exhaust. And only happens when moving. Not when at a stand still.

Not sure what it could be. I've seen people mention sticky vanes.

Thanks in advance

Mine gives me a siren noise when driving cold first thing but it disappears when it warms up, tbh it disappears within a mile of driving it. Car is a pd170 with 77k, I get a bit of blue smoke on startup but that's it. It's never bothered me as I had a pd140 passat and the siren noise was ridiculous on that, constantly making noise and smoking but it never gave me any problems the whole time I had it.

Thanks for the reply. That's a bit of a relief. Got a bit worried that a new turbo was on the cards.

I took my old man for a spin in it and he reckons the same thing.

The bit that threw me is that it doesn't do it at a standstill. Just when moving.

My turbo whistle is loud as hell, only hear when on load (driving) and I've had some weird looks!
Been the same for 9,000 miles, just started on evening driving back from a mates.

Garage told me not to worry unless it goes bang, no smoke and still pull slike a train.
It isn't the boost pipes, had them checked.

I need to check the boost pipes. That's on the to do list. But other than that I'm not sure what else it is.

Cheers for your help guys. Minds at rest a bit more.

Awesome. Cheers guys. Obviously if it gets noticably worse then I'll have to look into it more.
I'll live with it for now though. :)

I've got a pd140 with 130k on it, mine used to whistle like hell when on boost, I just inspected all my boost pipes and they were worn out tbh, so I cleaned them up and used self analgamating tape on them and by god the difference is unreal. Better mpg, I'm upto 60mpg average over 500miles, and good power too. I'll post some pictures for you

Quick update. Was driving to work this morning and the car went into limp mode and the engine light has now come on.....

I'm in the process of trying to find a code reader.

Anyone have any ideas if what it could be in the meantime?

Thanks
