Twanging/knocking when coming off drive.

Hi

I have a Ibiza good stuff that has just started knocking. I have noticed it when turning but mainly when stationary. When reversing off the drive the best way to describe the noise is a twang like something is knocking under the footwell of the drivers side.

I have checked the droplinks and the casing is all intact and sound.

Where should I start?

Thanks

I think I'm having the same issue in my cupra, I have to reverse down with full on to the right and it knocks from under the passenger footwell, almost feels like it has hit something slippery like ice and it's jumping on it but even on a dry day it happens, never thought anything of it until this post!

Yes, but the OP would have noticed and commented on the rear of the car either lowering when trying to drive forward or lifted when trying to drive backwards - if the rear brakes had seized on initially.

Found the problem... Coil at the top is snapped on the drivers side.

Bought the car from a seat garage in September. Would the 6 month guarantee cover this?

Thanks and I hope diagnosis helps others

Maybe no harm in trying, but most cars suffer broken coil springs, it just seems to be the way these springs are made and not protected much these days - and blamed on speed kerbs and poor road conditions!

If you plan to keep this car for a few years, I'd say it would be worth your while to get both sides replaced as they will both be roughly in the same state, and I'd think that they will also need to replace the top bearings as they will be heavily corroded.

Edit:- maybe better to sound a bit annoyed so that they might take pity on you and reduce the labour costs - though I don't think that they will be legally obliged to do anything for you cost wise.

Well, I have just had the top coil snap off the RHS front spring, so it looks like I'll need to replace both springs as the car is a late 2009 model!

Does anyone know which parts SEAT replaced on some early 2010MY cars to stop the clunking coming from the front as I might as well replace these bits as well when the car is in bits?

This happened on the way to the airport as we were going away for 9 days, initially there was some light metallic noises which I tried to put down to the fact that the rear seats were folded to make way for two large cases, but as time went on it developed into a lot more light clanging then a thump and it stopped making a noise! I did a U turn as some as possible and stopped at the side of the road at the point where the noise stopped, and found a top coil on the road, that job will keep until we get home!

Ha Ha, probably not as this car is just my general runabout while my oldest daughter is away working in KL, I'd rather keep it standard and in good nick in case it gets sold on later this year.

I've got an Audi S4 2011 for playing with if and when it ever gets taken out of the garage.
