Hey, just wanting to know if anyone can point me in the direction of a good upgraded dumpvalve for the leon fr tdi 170?
I have been advised the standard dv may be whats causing me hesitation on gear change.
cheers

As alluded to, there's no dump valve on that particular engine (or on any diesel engine I'm aware of other than aftermarket fart valves) so there's no possibility of an uprated one. The slight hesitation cannot be a dump valve issue in this case.

The hesitation might be down to the Variable Nozzle Turbine (VNT) system changing as you lift off the accelerator, and there's not a lot you can do about that I'm afraid.

To explain a little more, a wastegated turbo has static internals and produces boost when the exhaust gas passes through it. When the maximum boost pressure is reached the wastegate opens and loses (or wastes) the excess boost to keep things in check. A VNT turbo has a moveable set of vanes which change the angle of attack of the exhaust gasses on the turbine wheel, giving boost quicker at low revs and backing off when the maximum boost is reached. In this way the exact amount of boost required is made and controlled rather than making full boost and wasting it. When you lift off the accelerator the VNT system stops the overboost by backing off the mechanism and until it catches up again when you get back on the accelerator then there'll be a slight delay.

This gif shows how the vanes move on demand.

Hey guys apologies for that, it was a guy called Neil from drivers glasgow, a revo dealer who advised me on that. I'm just so fed up with it because it is juddery on take over. ANd hard accelaration when on change. Most noticeably third to fourth. Why is this only happening to my car there are plenty of 170 tdi's get remaped with no problem?

Sounds like a duffer to me and this guy is backtracking with excuses. Get your money back and take it to someone reputable mate. Theres plenty on here to chose from :D

You think thats the best bet mate? Would that probably eliminate the fault or is it only my car? THere are no fault codes brung up on vag com. Checked it on vag com with the car running, and on the running graph it shows the hesitation when chaging gear as a slight dip then incline again. But no faults. THe car is fine standard. Its really putting me off laying so much money out on the car as i can't enjoy it.

take the car to a specialist to do some logs

Thatsa goodidea guys.I'm taking thecar to a guyin kilmarnock. A honda specialist to trade but is very reputable and has all the gear. DO you know of any vag specialists in Ayrshire or near Glasgow?

Cheers Viking if i dont get anywhere with this honda specialist in kilmarnock i will probably give star peformance a go. If it is the VNT you talk about is there anything that can be done to avoid the hesitation kicking in do you think?
