Trying to replace front brake pads, had to knock the old pads out from the back as they were proper stuck !!, now the new pads wont fit .
There are these metal shims (top and bottom) in the caliper and the metal back plate of the pad is getting stuck on them , like the metal back plate is maybe 1mm too tall for the opening.

Please help

you may have dismantled wrongly and left in parts holding pads in as I,ve never heard of anyone removing from back maybe why were proper stuck.....normally remove locking clip then remove pins taking care to catch locating clip/spring then tap flathead screwdriver in-between back of pad/caliper to force piston in on calliper so new pads can fit in.then slide/pull out....if tight tap from front ...not back...put pics on as would be easier to see what you,ve done ...me thinks shims might be off old pads and possible different removal other possible removal is to bolt caliper off mounting plate and slide off disc and pad held in caliper with clip on back of padclip fitting into piston on caliper….either way you might have damaged something....thus pics needed

Not the anti squeal shims but at the top and bottom of the caliper there are metal pieces (perhaps shims too ?) that the pads slide on (see the picture).
The pads that were in there were tight and needed knocking out but the new pads metal backing plate was too tall and they wouldn't slide in. dom-morton-porsche-brembo.jpg

Thats easier to understand....at that you either have wrong pads ie given you cupra pads for non brembo calipers and have brembo calipers fitted or given you standard leon pads....take old ones to shop and show them ....should exchange as their mistake.....once had a problem with discs for mk2 cupra at europarts...gave me 312 mm discs as listed but was 345mm discs for mk2 cupra...so easily done...lol

The pads are EBC Greenstuff, As I need the car (daily driver) we milled 1mm off each end and now they fir perfect.

It is quite possible (am guessing) that the calipers being 13 years old and never rebuilt some corrosion may have got under those "shims" and lifted them up a bit.
