Right, just thought I would start something to see what peoples thoughts were on this.. I know the outcome will prob be in SEATs favour as this is a SEAT forum, but just wondering if anyone sees the Polo GTI as an upgrade to the Cupra/Bocanegra?

I know, same engine, basically the same car with a different badge.. But still interested to see what people think.

The ibiza looks soo much better than the polo i find them boring looking as with most vw's. I guess it's down to what one you like the look of better. I would think the polo has a better interiour as in quality but probly still boring. I agree with above there pretty much even as a car but price looks plus i never see boc's around my area so sujests rarety :)

I agree that the ibiza looks so much better than the polo, you cant really tell it's a gti unless yu see the badge. i do love the rarety of the Boc's

Agree, it's not an upgrade if it's near enough the same car. Even though the VW's are 'renowned' to be better built. Definitely an alternative.

Yea agree with the alternative, should have wrote than and not upgrade lol.. there is a good couple of grand difference in the price, i've seen a MY60 for £14,000 .. Not too bad I thought tbh

Hi buddy,
I've owned both, had a cupra for a few months and sadly it was stolen. Ended up buying the polo gti, and infact I pay 10pound less a month on a pcp. And I think its due to the fact on pcp you finance the gap between what its worth now and what its worth in 36months time and VWs have better residual value.

Having owned both, the GTI I'm sorry to say is a much better car, feels so much more solid and imo is more fun to drive, I know people have opinions but its the first thing I noticed. Also I have had no issues with engine yet touch wood whereas the cupra (same model year as the polo) had issues in the first 1000 miles upto 4k when it was stolen (obviously its lucky dip with these tsi's). I'd call it an upgrade personally. Take one for a drive you feel more special behind the wheel. Both are superb cars but give me the choice again, gti every time.

I have to say at the time of buying my Cupra it was the look of the car that attracted me the most. Once I had the car a while I got to realise the quality inside was rubbish. I didn't like it to drive. Everything inside creaked and squeaked. If I had the choice between the two I would go for the GTI. It looks far better inside imo and looks pretty good outside too. The only thing you are upgrading is the quality really.

The fact that the Polo and Ibiza share the same engine would put me off going for the GTI, only because of personal experience I had with my Cupra. The whole oil issue which you will already know off with these engines.

I decided to get rid of my Cupra and go for a Leon FR CR TDI 170. For me the Leon is in a different class to the Ibiza. The build quality is far better and the drive is brilliant. Had it less than a week and I love driving it. I consider it an upgrade in every way.

Cheers for your reply.

Sorry to hear bout the stolen car mate. VWs are good at holding their value, I might have to go and see what they would offer for mine if I was to p/x for a Polo GTI at some stage.

Yeah it does seem to be a bit lucky dip. I guess the VW is far better in terms of quality and comfort compared to the Ibiza, my Ibiza creaks at rattles a lot! Yeah I think I may just have to take one for a drive just to see how different they are.

The Cupra is more attractive, but like you said the interior does creak and squeak quite alot. I do like to drive mine but the constant creaks and rattles are quite annoying (if I have my music up then I don't hear them, but then I can't really have loud music when I have passengers lol) I agree with that, the Polo looks better inside it is attractive outside too.

I'm one of the lucky ones so far, I have had no problems with my engine so far (touchwood) and its done 35k. I do like the Leon FR TDI but personally I like my hot hatches too much atm to go for something like the Leon, maybe in a few years I will :)

Whaaat, how did it get stolen?!

I think the GTI's are nice cars, I wouldn't exactly call it an upgrade but the interior is much nicer and the seats look alot comfier, so maybe an upgrade in that department!

It does seem alot more £££ though.

New years eve of all night's! Sadly left my keys in my mates flat, we went out came back 2 hours later and the door had been kicked in. At the time my life was over was horrid but I look back and thankfully I can say **** happens at least no one was physically hurt :).

The interior is better build however, for both me & wife the seat that looks comfier just is not, and both of us find Seat's seats slightly better & more supportive, Seat's seats also can be adjusted lower which I prefer. . .

A like the polo gti's like just couldn't justify the vw mark up over the seat that's all do you get all the same equipment as standard yeah?

You don't get climate or cruise. I know its not giving the gti much of a fight saying that haha, but I don't miss either. Opted for the xnenons and drl over the climate, I was gutted about having the standard twist dials for the heating but I haven't missed it! Best thing to do as az has mentioned is to go see one and drive it. I think you'll see why their more money, and you certainly know why when you live with one.
