Hi guys - My Ibiza (97 8v) has a really annoying rain water leak into the passenger footwell. I think there is possibly something missing underneath the lower windshield panel because the filter for the cabin fan is exposed and soaking wet - should some sort of cover be protecting this that a previous owner might not have bothered to refit?

I have added a make shift cover for it but it hasnt worked. Any ideas/tips?

Thanks!

The cover is a bit crappy, I was thinking of replacing it but other Ibizas in the scrap yard didnt look much better. I'll look into that then, thanks!

if theres a gap between the windscreen and the wiper cover then water gets into it.

There should be a flimsy bit of plastic covering the scuttly that you need to remove the wipers to get off. Under that you have the pollen filter which goes straight into the fan intake.

Not worth getting a perished one from a scrappers - they are, from memory, only about £20 from a dealer.

Whilst you've got the wipers & panel off, worthwhile removing all the dead leaves etc. that will have collected in there an probably blocked the drain holes in the the wings. This is a design fault that VW Group keep making with their cars - they obviously don't anticipate people will actually keep their cars outside otherwise they'd design a car with a proper scuttle cover & pollen filter. My S3 is just as bad as my Ibiza & Cordoba.

Yea the flimsy plastic is there - horrible thing it is too.

The main leak was getting into through the housing for the fan motor. I cleaned up the area around it and ran a hose through the drain hole near the wing. Then I used silicone around the opening before putting the fan housing back.

The major leak is fixed, but when I use the hose it for a prolonged period it lets in one or two drips down the plastic bit in the passenger footwell, just in front of the door. I think this is possibly the windscreen, but I can live with that. I think rainwater might not be enough to get in, we will see.
