Weird fog light problem

Hi all. Had good response from this list before, so hoping someone can help me out again.

My daughter has a 3 year old Ibiza 1.4 Sport 3 door.

A while ago she had an accident and some front end panels needed repairing, including some of the lights.

We've now just noticed that, when she has her headlamps on, the nearside front foglight also comes on. When we turn the foglight switch on, both foglights come on.

So, it seems to me there are only 2 options, both of which are weird.

1. When doing the repairs, some numpty wired one foglight directly into the headlight circuit, instead of through the foglight switch

2. the Ibiza has daytime running lights built into the foglight enclosure, and one of those bulbs has blown

The second option seems odd because I've never seen any car have anything in the foglight enclosure except the foglight bulb, and its not like the Ibiza doesn't have enough other bulbs lit when the headlamps are on.

The first just sounds difficult to achieve.

Anyone familiar with the lighting wiring enough to suggest what might have happened? I want to take it back to the garage that did the repairs, but it was a year ago now and we've only just noticed, so want to get some ideas before I start yelling at them.

thanks for your help

Are you sure that you are not just seeing the normal cornering light behaviour?

If the lights are on and the steering is turned or the direction indicator is switched on then the appropriate foglight comes on to light the side of the road.

With the steering straight ahead and the direction indicator off then both foglights should be off.

Duh - thanks Network man

You're right. We bought the car second hand, and had no idea it had cornering lights.

Its a feature, not a problem!

I knew I'd get useful help here and you've proved it again - less than 10mins :)

Thanks Network Man

Just to add, as well as coming on when the wheel is turned or the indicator is active, both front fog lights come on when reverse is selected.
All normal behaviour.
If you dont like it, it can be disabled by the dealers or someone with VCDS software.

if the car has auto lights it will have the corner function on it.

I had this issue when the the seat dealer took the dash out to fix an air con motor, my right fog light was on constantly when the wheel was straight, ended up taking it back to garage to get sorted basically whatever it is that activates the corner function was mis-aligned
