Hi All, So I'm thinking of taking the cupra off the road come october/november time for winter as its just to low to deal with this scottish snow.

Whilst its of the road i'm going to take the engine apart, Rebuild the head with new seals etc maybe uprated valves and springs not sure yet. However i am definatly going to replace the conrods.

What Rods would you all recomend as i know there are a few out there?

Also would you recomend chaning the pistons aswell (what are the standard ones rated to?)

cheers Sean

there is no 'rated to' value, for anything especially std stuff.

however std 20vt pistons are forged (from mhale i beleive) and have been known to cope with 500+bhp......

Ok cheers for the info. So in your eyes the standard pistons should be sufficient. I'm either going to stay Ko3s or just go all out gt28rs.

My local VAG garage said they can cope with 400BHP but if your going to increase torque which you will with a gt28 then you are likely to bend the rods, so go for new forge rods and pistons. Hope that helps

pistons should be fine so long as bore wear is'nt too much when you open it up..
get rifle drilled rods imho.... small end pin wear can be an issue on cheaper non rifle drilled rods
