have done a quick search cant seem to find anything specific i need, so can any one tell me what engine is in the 52 plate leon cupra ive been given?

ive been told a few contradicting claims from people so i though the best place to ask would be here.

1.8 turbocharged 180bhp if it's just the Cupra and not Cupra R..

You got given the car?
 
yeah that sounds about right, just the cupra. does it have forged internals?

the car was my cousins he decided it was a good idea to go out in the rain with 3 bald tyres, ended up in the back of a range rover. and the insurance wouldent cover him because of the tyres. so he gave it to me to flog and use some bits off it

forged pistons as standard, but not rods 19mm wrist pins, (210-225 cupra R got 20mm wrist pins)

would the engine be one of the more desirable ones or do people normally look for the fully forged engines?

its the best of the 180's barring the silly PCV and n249 system, 1.8ts are good for 300-350bhp stock i wouldnt like to take it past 320lbft of torque personally,

Uprate the conrods and it'll comfortably take 350+



the 1.8t BAM is the best out the lot wich is in the cupra R but still the rods arent forged,

the rods are the biggest weakpoint on a 1.8t to be honest

how much would and engine and gearbox fetch then generally? price with and without a turbo?
 
have a scout around mate. A lot depends on mileage and what its had done to it. If you want to confirm engine type look under plastic engine cover there will be a small bit of machined metal that will have three letters on, it will probably say auq. They run a ko3s, where are you based?
 
what sort of spec is the K03s then? im currently building a renault turbo engine and it could come in handy if it puts out well enough...?

engines only done about 85k and completley standard so im not expecting much. ive also tried butchering a plate to fit the gearbox onto my renault lump to no avail because the french like to use cheese as gearboxes!

im based in swansea (wales) mate, the car is in llanelli and the engine and box is in my misses' house in neath lol
 
max flow rate is approx 245 bhp on the k03s, if you sold the engine/turbo you would be around the £800 to £1000 mark fully running. The engine yours runs will be AUQ same as mine, like before mentioned 180bhp. these codes are in all cupras until you get up to the 210 and 225 which i believe is amk and bam

Iv just broken an ARY from a TT, same engine basically, i bought it for 250 with a knackered cam tentioner, knacked it up and made £600 back plus a box of spares for mine. Got £175 just for the turbo

thanks for the info, so thats 245 at full chat then? no more go in it?

if thats the case looks liek ill be selling it along with the engine and box
 
245 is pushing its bollocks you wont see any more than that mate, k03s is only a small turbo, good for spooling up times but no good for big power apps. Why dont you break the engine, sell the bottom end and head seprate, turbo, all the valves and sensors, it will soon add up and only takes a few ours to strip down, just more of a mess about in bits, i was sick of the sight of the post office lol

nah, just put a good head gasket on it and your laughin ha ha, would be one fun little car though, if you could ever get the front wheels to stay on the floor lol
 
like i said the gearboxes are made out of cheese! im pushing it at 200 lol never mind the 275 target B-)
i have been tempted to use this leon engine and put it in another renault shell...

dont ask me why renault i just like the shape :D
and if i had money theyd be 4WD turbocharged animals, but im poor :(
 
join the club matey, even more poor this time of year. You could sell the renault to fund a k04 conversion on the leon and you will see an easy 265 bhp with around 290 torque
 
the leon is in no fit state to ever be roadworthy again lol. if i were alowed to post pictures up i could show you but i cant yet...
