Hi,

This RNS 510 is becoming a pain in the backside!

I purchsed (what I thought was a version C) from a seller in Lithuania (very good feedback) and it should have come with 7.1v maps & 2760 fw.

Anyway these are the issues:
1. sticker says it's a C but the trusted VCDS says it's a B
2. it has 7.0 maps with 3800 fw = not a good combo as it freezes when trying to use points of interest - it needs 7.1v maps
3. sometimes you got to feed a CD in a couple of times.... as it spits it out saying error (not that much of a issue as i'll eventually transfer the files to it's HD. (DVD's always seem to work straight away?)

So the seller has apogolised and reckons he never knew it was a B (he sells loads of these RNS 510 - all the different versions), anyway he is asking what can he do to sort it out?

I paid £425 (+ £25 p&p) for it! So I was thinking of asking for some money back or should I return it?
What do you guys think?

True :) I do see what you're saying, I'd ask for the difference in money back between the Rev C and B and still get them to send the new maps :)
You could send it back, but I expect shipping costs won't be cheap. Maybe you could say it on and then use the money to buy a proper C version?

If its from an Auction site then you should be able to get your money back and you do have time to change you mind as part of the distance selling law, if the seller is a business seller and the goods are not as advertised then you should be able to claim back the postage as well.

Maybe the mainboard was replaced when it was 'acquired' hence the version discrepancy.

To be honest, paying £425 for a C unit should have set alarm bells off anyhow...

I knew it wasn't the LED screen version but I read that early C's didn't have LED! The guy is selling them for £510 - I made a cheeky offer!

Update........

After not happy being ripped off - I contacted my credit card & told them the story..... anyway, I had to complete some forms & then email the seller to say the item was ready for collection (as it's their responsibilty) & that I wanted a refund - you got 7 days to repond! You got to give the retailer opportunity to collect the goods, if not "as described" before you can claim from Mastercard.

Well that was 4 weeks ago & the seller never replied! Well yesterday my credit card issued me with a full refund. But guess what, the seller is only now contacting me & that he'll sort out collection! Damn right he wants to now collect, as I bet the money has been taken from him!!!

Shall I tell him where to go - as he has done nothing for 3 months! I take it, cos he's taken so long (i.e not responding) - I'm not committed any fraud etc... by not replying to him now?

if you got a refund, item isn't yours so technically you're committing a theft...
also I was always under impression that even under distance selling regs, its still buyer's responsibility to return unwanted item to the seller if buyer changed his mind etc.

I agree, but it would serve him right for being a lying c**t

Nope - it's not the buyers responsibility as the item is "not as described"! I haven't changed my mind..... the issue is I got the wrong unit! My CC told me, when a item is not as described - the retailer has to make arrangements for collection..... otherwise I would have to pay £25+ for the postage!

As for it being theft - surely there's a time limited...... e.g what if he contacted me a year later? It's been 3 months since I 1st contacted him & he's never replied!

He's still selling version "B" as the newer "C" & also has listed Version "D" for £650 - when theyre are not...... other buyers have stated this! So hopefully this will teach him a lesson & not rip people off!?

Edit - I'm pretty sure it's not theft, as I've made every attempt to contact the seller, so I'm not being dishonest! If you found money on the street & handed it into the police - if no one claims it in a certain amount of time.... the cash is yours! I'm sure it's less than 3 months!

Its not theft at all mate. I remember buying something off eBay and it was fake. After numerous emails the person said he wasn't accepting returns so i lodged a dispute with Paypal. I won the dispute then the seller said he wanted the items back....No chance he ripped me off so karma came full circle. If you don't reply to the emails or letters i would leave it and just keep it.

Serve the cheeky ******* right for ripping u off in the first place.

Enjoy!

Just tell the seller to arrange collection. You got your money back after all, and he's entitled to his goods back. If he's up for arranging collection then let him do that. It's no longer yours after all.

Unless you're thinking that as he mis sold you something you're gonna have your money back and keep the goods.

I've been asking that since I found out it was not a version C! He's only offering now as the money has been taken off him!

My CC hasn't told me to give it back if he contacts me since I've got my money back!?

I'm keeping it now, serves him right for being a con artist - he's making at least £50-£100 on top of these units!!!

As opposed to you making £425 out of it?
