I'm about to put winter wheels on the cupra and have to decide what to do with the summer ones.

Either straight refurb

Refurb to copper / black

Or go for 20" wheels

Has anyone refurb'd these wheels in a copper colour? I'm struggling to see if they'll look OK!

Also, running 20" wheels, do they fit would any modifications?

I’m not a fan of black alloys - IMO they always look dirty unless just cleaned, and with black you lose much of the wheel’s design detail unless you’re quite close up to the car. If the existing wheels need refurbishing, I’d go for either smoked chrome or anthracite. I don’t like diamond cut alloys so wouldn’t get them re-done in a diamond cut finish. AFAIK Seat OEM copper coloured alloys are diamond cut with a copper tint clear coat applied and I seem to remember some owners who needed these refurbished found there were relatively few wheel refurb companies that offered this (colour tinted clear coat) finish.

As for 20” alloys; you’ll need lower profile tyres which will make the ride firmer, which some might find too firm. 20” tyres will also be more expensive than 18” or 19”. There’s also an increased risk of impact damage from potholes, raised or dropped drain covers, and an increased risk of kerb damage when parallel parking. For these reasons, I’d avoid 20” alloys.

Na, they're a fad. They're in fashion just now but won't be for long. Look back at cars over the past decades and notice when black wheels were popular. Eh...never.
