which way do you pull off the gear gaiter?

As Pab's guides are down, I'm struggling to find any confirmation of which way to pull off the gear stick gaiter. Can anyone confirm? The surround moves forwards and backwards a little, do I pull up from the side nearest the dashboard?

Sounds like a stupid question, but I'd like to avoid breaking any clips.

From the back, furthest away from the dashboard. There are two clips at the front.

Its a **** system, but there are indeed two clips at the front (furtest away from the dash). Release those and it comes off in a jiffy

thanks to you both for the replies, but you contradict each other, so now I'm very confused! Will I be able to feel the clips through the gaiter?

I dont think so (quite deep), I used a large flathead screwdriver. But its quite prone to cracking

The clips are below the 2nd and 6th gear, does that answer your question
