whitling sound at acceleration

hi,

I drive a Leon 1.6 SE When I start off in first gear and put my foot on the accelerator there is a whistling sound. The sound is only heard when the vehicle is slow and then disappears. This happens in 2nd too for example if I take off from a junction in 2nd gear. But at higher speeds there is no whistling sound at gear change. Can anyone help? It would save me time and money taking it to a dealer!

Thanks for the info...i was getting worried that it might be something to do with the gear box. I dont really know much about turbos...what do i look for to see if there is one fitted? (if there is!)

mine does it too.

mine doesn't have a turbo and i doubt yours does

Is it the wiper blades whistling ? i had a new screen in mine in feb whistled its head off ever since and it drives me crackers,I tried moving blades about driving slow, fast only not driving my car stops it

Try getting your exhaust checked. I had this on my 1.6 16V leon. A small hole in the flexi section of the down pipe.
