Who else's wheel catches their coilover or just me ?

For a while now I've been pondering this issue,

My front wheels are 18" 8J and ET35
The adjustment ring on the coilover sit extremely close to the tyre , they don't touch but it's probably only 1mm and that's worrying !
I'm also on 5mm spacers and can rub the arch on tight roundabouts

When I purchased the car the previous owner got the grinder on the adjuster ring and smoothed it off for some clearance but this makes adjusting and locking up difficult

So what I did was fitted new coilovers and took the little helper springs out which allowed me to wind the adjustment ring up well above and clear off the tyre ,
but this causes the springs to be loose when jacked up , which isn't an issue for me but obviously isn't right ,

I don't want to add anymore spacers or change my wheels ,
if I went to a fixed shock and spring kit would this solve my problem as I won't have any adjusters on the shock leg and the spring platform should be higher than the wheel like they are from factory?

Asking the question before I spend my money on a shock and spring kit?
