Firstly, my leon is using about 1/4 of a litre in 1,000 miles. Which is within spec.

I'm wondering why TFSi engines have a reputation for using oil, is the turbo heating it up and vaporising it? The only other turbo car I've had previous was a Golf TDi 150 which also consumed oil. I used to own a FN2 Type R which not only came with a top up bottle in the boot but also has a oil level sensor (I never noticed it use any oil)

I'm a bit surprised that the Leon doesn't have a oil level sensor (like my MK IV Golf and the Civic) considering that Seat must know that it drinks oil.

Mine over 30000 miles never burnt through a drop of oil between services as far as i could tell. Must admit in 4 years of surfing th TFSI led forums ive never been aware of any TFSI oil burning issue.

NOw fast forward to the new 1.4TSI.....that burns oil lol

some do some don't

not had an oil consumption problem with my car (looks for a bit of wood)
but i think it has a lot to do with how you treat your car or previous owners and what sort of mileage you do.

Most of them do and it's part of the concept.
If you ever removed the tfsi intercooler after some miles you notice the oil comes dripping out. The system is designed to throw some oil from the header back into the system (that is where an oil catchcan is for) where it is burned so there is where some of the oil goes.
Some tfsi's that don't loose oil receive fuel through a faulty HPFP so the lost of oil is replaced by petrol (which offcourse is worse than filling some oil now and than)

All turbo cars with intercoolers do this
the oil gathers at the lowest point normally the intercooler , it's the inherent design of the engines.
