Another interesting one why European car manufacturers without a presence in China don't like those that do:

Electric car rules could cost carmakers billions -

So the Brexit deal adds 10% shipping either way across the channel on EVs.

50% of the value of the car is in the battery

Why China is appealing as a production base one suspects to keep costs down to some European manufactures including VAG whilst others that haven't taken this route moan.

Well this is getting fun now,

From Reuters Auto File today

VW cut production of two of its lower-priced EVs in Europe blaming slow sales. The ID.3 and Seat Cupra models are among the European-assembled models under pressure from Tesla and Chinese EV imports.

The EU-China EV fight will go beyond EVs

China’s commerce minister warned his EU counterparts to back off their threats to levy tariffs on Chinese-made EVs shipped to Europe, or risk broader damage to EU-China ties.

The comments made more explicit the risk of Chinese retaliation that concerns German automakers and some German government officials. Germany AG has plenty of concerns about China – including worries about intellectual property. But German automakers fear a European “decoupling” from China’s lucrative market.

Tesla is at risk of getting caught in the crossfire. A senior EU official told the Financial Times that Chinese-made Teslas and Chinese-made vehicles of other Western brands imported to Europe would also be investigated for unfair pricing.

2035 is the European date so nothing new. Johnson said 2030 to be different from Europe. They have quotes on electric and ICE so can be done if the phasing isn't as agreed. That"s not been changed.

Expect it's a wait and see. Seat / Cupra brand split might be hung by its own fascard. But we'll see. Don't think anyone would have noticed Seat going under if it does if the brand wasn't split. We all thought we were driving Cupras till we were told we we're 😂

I knew this was coming. I jumped ship from Seat Cupra model. When they start putting 1.5l engines in an Cupra Ateca the game is over. Just another brand. I'll stick with BMW M or AMG. Unfortunately Cupra is another diluted brand of the VW empire
AMG brand is slapped all over Mercedes now - it's a trim!
BMW use M-Sport as a sporty option 320d M sport!
Porsche stick their badges on VW SUV's!
Everyone is at it. Just marketing!

I was going to say exactly the same - loads of 'M' badged under-powered BMW's knocking around.
