As the title currently I have a twin ported 12” JL Audio sub box and it’s huge and fugly in my boot so would a single 15” sealed built in to corner of one back seat at angle sound as gd?

Bigger and better quality the speaker the lower Hz it can go. It can sound as good but you need to get an equivelent of better cone and amp accordingly.

The amp is plenty of power 1x600wrms alpine, just found sealed 15” in past sounded better than twin 12” ported I have

2 x 12's you get not better bas response just more volume over 1 x 12. It's like having 1 6x9 when the second disconnects. The sound quality doesn't get worse just quieter. The same applies with subs. Depends what you want from your setup. If you want quality and bass response then go for 1 x 15 with the best specs you can. If you want volume over depth of bass 2 x 12's or 2 cheaper 15's. Does that make sense?

Yes makes sense it’s loud and sometimes too loud when in fact what I prefer is a tight solid thump if that makes sense, I find my twins are loud and they do have a thump but not as solid as I would like , perhaps the ported box doesn’t help?

The thump you want means you require more control at low Hz I would suggest checking the specs of the subs to their range. The low the HZ the better. After about 20Hz you can only feel it not hear it. Also don't forget the specs are given at a stated decabel so you will need to take this into account. I am coming at this from a home cinema and hifi knowledge point of view. Porting might not make that much difference. Have a google on speaker specifications and what they mean. Good luck.

Frequency response is 22-250hz , sensitivity 86db, not sure if that helps but that’s what I found
