Wrong oil been put in Leon Cupra 52 reg ?

Just been flicking through my service history for my cupra which i recently bought.

Its a 180 remapped to around 210

At the last service it had 5w40 oil put in it.

I was looking to do a oil and filter change this weekend and i can get discount on oil in halfords, halfords recommends castrol edge, fully synthetic, 5w30 ?

Other sources say 10w40 though?

Will it do it any harm if i put in a different grade? say the 5w30 ?

Sorry i dont understand what these grades mean, only some are thicker/thinner than others.

if your are on longlife servicing then vw507.00 5w30
if on 10k servicing then vw505.00 5w40 or 10w40
i use quantum longlife 111 on longlife services or cars with dpf and quantum platinum on 10k
both supplied by vw trade parts

I got 4 litres of Castrol Edge 5w40 fully synth from Asda in the end for £35 ! Then a friend gave me a unused 1l bottle. Halfords it was £46 just for the 4 litres. Its the same oil thats in it at the minute, its been having oil changes every 10k so ill just stick to the current regime and its got the same grade in so ill stick to that too ! thankyou
