XCARLINK question

I've just taken delivery of my xcarlink with ipod connection (and stereo jack).

My question is; can you have both the ipod and stereo jack connected at the same time?

I want to have the stereo jack plugged into my satnav so I can use the bluetooth handsfree via the headunit (i currently use a cassette adaptor)

would this work, or will having two things connected to the xcarlink cause it to self destruct!?!

or would the audio from both devices be played simulateously?

cheers, jim

well it doesn't work, plugging in the stereo jack too makes the ipod go really quiet.

My xcarlink has a mind of its own...anyone else had problems installing it with the cd changer plugged in too?

what sort of problems are you having??

Surely you dont need the Changer plugged in aswell as wouldnt you have all your music on your iPod....or is that just me?

no, its supposed to work with the cd changer aswell.

"Another unique feature of the xcarlink is that you can still continue to use your existing CD Changer (6CD/multi-disk). Other products on the market would force you to disconnect your CD changer as it occupies the CD changer port on your Stereo, however the xcarlnk has a loop-through input which allows you to keep your CD changer, it will function as normal while the ipod is connected"

My issues so far:

1) I'm finding it hard to connect to the ipod, when I press the "CD" button mostly it says "magazine" or occasionally "changer" then switches back to radio. It seems you have to press the button between 3 and 12 times before it connects to ipod.

(i haven't tested it with the cd magazine in the changer yet, will do that next)

2) when I've got the ipod going I get an occasional loud crackle and sometimes it switches itself back to radio!

I thought this may have been a dodgy connection but wiggling all the wires whilst the ipod is playing doesn't make it crackle?

3) going back a track on the ipod seems very difficult. skipping forward works fine but you have to press the back button loads and loads of times before it does it!

So overall I'm not overly impressed so far!

I'm off to try again (this time with cd's in changer) and will report back.

now i've got some cds in the changer it appears to be behaving better!

It alternates between the cd changer and ipod. so if you're listening to the ipod but want a cd on, you just press radio then CD again and it changes between cd/ipod

I'll be in the car for a couple of hours tomorrow so will reserve judgement until after that!

It behaved perfectly today, no problems at all. So I assume (hope!) it was the fact that the cd changer didn't have the magazine in that made it act strange.

It's so nice to have decent quality music rather than using a radio transmitter or cassette adapter. Its a shame I had to keep my cassette adaptor inplace to use my handsfree but its not a problem really.

The random button on the headunit works which I'm pleased about. The repeat button works too but I never use that. It's also a touch that I'll never need to charge my ipod again as the xcarlink keeps it topped up.

So providing I don't have any more problems, I was very happy with it today.

i have installed mine tonight, it is great that i can have my ipod without having the dash cut up and a stereo fitted, however

i miss having the song names showing, plus it can only play 6 of my playlists:(

o well, i'll have to rearrange the 6 playlists for different moods and have random set

Isn't it only 5 playlists? "Disc 1" just plays whats the ipod is playing, and 2 - 6 is the playlists.

I've used my playlists to sort my music into genres, then I can use "disc 1" to randomly play all tracks :)

I'm going to screw the earth wires into the metal headunit casing later so they are deffinately secure.

ah i did think that 2 of the buttons played the same playlist, so 5 playlists :(

i will be splitting them into Genres too.

O well beats the stereo under the steering wheel:roflmao:

I think they are cheapest on ebay from china, but I'd rather pay an extra £10 and buy from www.xcarlink.co.uk and have some product support (and money back guarantee)

It's very easy to fit, you just have to undo six screws and plug it in!

Cost me £75 delivered

Yeah I did look on ebay, but if i'm buying from ebay i don't like buying from china, never seems legit!

Will have a look at that website now, sounds alright £75. Is there a specific model of xcarlink that is needed for our ibiza's or any adaptor??
